Default 13 under install

my apologies to WTR for hijacking his thread, so as per his suggestion I'll start my own. First off this project is not fat finger friendly but if getting the old head unit out is the worst of it I'll get over it first ( of many I'm sure ) question, what have you guys done with the brackets that span from the main fairing frame to the speakers? Any tried and true mods for them or dou you eliminate them? I've found a boatload of Rushmore threads for install tricks but it's slim pickings for the old batwing, thanks guys.

Let's talk about my 2014 Rushmore Installation.

Just kidding!!!

I've done several 2013 & older batwing sound systems, all with the factory head unit.

What are you trying to accomplish by removing the brackets/supports?

This video from Biketronics for installing an aftermarket head unit clearly shows leaving the speaker support brackets in place.

Well it does not seem they will go on to the new spacers and speaker without some modifications. It seems doable to mod them effectively but perhaps I'm overlooking something.

Are you talking about the spacers for the aftermarket radio or are you calling the speaker adapters "spacers"?

Here's another video showing installation of some BT7.1 speakers and their custom adapters.

You will have to take the bracket off of the speaker side and loosen the bolt(s) on the other end to give you enough play for it to be tweeked enough to fit.

Brackets go in trash can. I saved them but after 6 different speaker sets I have yet to use them.

Learn something new every day.

So you don't think they add any strength or rigidity to the fairing, especially with the weight of some of these speakers?

Ok, kind of makes sense. I took one off one side and left the other on to see what they add as far as rigidity and it did not seem like much if any. I've got time to kill before the dd's get here so I may get creative just for kicks.

Nit enough to justify working around them. Plus a lot of speakers require such a modification to them or spaced out so far they interfere with xovers or other potential items in the fairing .

Default Ok, next question

3 plugs came off the stock hk head unit, one looks like it plugs into the hand control unit and then into the Sony. Will that supply power and ground for the head unit as well as hand control? As for the other 2 one is for the cb and the other i have no idea, maybe diagnostics? Do I just cap off these 2 and leave them inside? Up to my elbows in this thing now
