OK now, here's another one in need of help, my brain is on overload and exhausted from pouring through all these audio threads the last 10 months off and on. I need to do this so I can move on to something else, just trying to figure out what works for me and my hard of hearing. Maybe I'm being over analytical. Help me out here on this 13 Road Glide cvo custom w/boom system front and lids only. I want the boom system out. Can use the connection that already exists in the bags for some 6x9's.
Current set-up: HU stock HK, Amp Arc 125.2, front Focal PC165, and lids boom stock 5x7 with boom amp in left side bag. I want to replace everything including the HU.
Upgrade thought: amp 4180 or 600.4, front speakers DD AW6.5 or focal k2 krc or others, lids 6x9 adapters with american hardbag or vtwin. Anyone w/ experience in american hardbag adapters??? Lid speakers 6x9 arc 692, biketronics or other options. I realize you lose sound in the lid speaker around 60-70 depending, maybe the wife can hear the 6x9's going down the road, so the fronts need to be awesome. My PC have performed well, by I'm sure there are others that out perform these. HU open for thought, sony, kenwood or others.
I appreciate all of you guys and the time you put into this forum. If I were closer, I'd buy all guys a beer and a whiskey.
Hi Zip, I just wrote about the 692s a second ago. If you have the power to drive them, they're pretty amazing. I didn't have the power to run them and they sounded damn nice but hooked up to a bridged 4v2 they sounded incredible and so they're back in the box because I don't have room for that amp in the fairing but they were mounted up using the Vtwin adaptors and my experience with those adaptors was excellent. I can't tell you anything about American hardbag for comparison's sake.

Actually those focal PC 165's sound pretty darn good. They lack power handling so you really can't put very much power to em but the Arc 125.2 is a perfect amp for those speakers. Not a bad front stage at all. Your weak link is the boom amp, the HU and the 5x7 boom speakers! Those focals will even sound better with an aftermarket HU! You need a set of 6x9's in the lids and something like an NVX or JL 280/4 to push em. In regard to the HU. Can't go wrong with Sony, Kenwood or Alpine. I'm a Sony man but I've had em all and all three rock!! I think if you make those changes your system will sound damn good keeping the Arc amp and the Focal PC's.
Thanks Gannicus, I think I'll try the Sony HU, Mex M70bT if I can find one. unless there's another Sony option. Then the vtwin or american hardbag adapter for my cvo lids and new 6x9's, get the Boom system out, install arc 692 for the lids, then if i could squeeze in the JL HD600.4 in the front some how, would be sweet, realizing that would be to much for the PC up front. Do you think the 4180 or 600.4 would work? Then shelf the 125.2???

My personal preference would be the Moto 600.4 only because it has gain controls and the BT4180 does not. SQ is about the same. The JL 600/4 will not fit in the fairing. This is what I know from personal experience. The Arc amp will not drive the Moto 692's to optimal performance. I've used many amps with those speakers and they sounded best with the Hertz HDP4, Soundstream TN4.900 and the JL 400/4 bridged. I'd say they sounded the best with the JL at 200watts per speaker. The sensitivity is 88db on those speakers and it takes a good amount of power for them to get loud. Now don't get me wrong. They sound dam good with the right amount of power.
Now the Sony MEX is a great choice! If you can't find the MEX check out the Kenwood KMR-D765BT or the Kenwood 998 all my favorite HU's.
Speakers: I like the DD AW6.5 components with the AT28 tweets. You could run those speakers with the BT4180 and have enough power to run the Moto 692's but honestly that set up would sound better with the Soundstream TN4.900 or the Hertz HDP4. The Hertz will fit in the fairing with a little inginuity.

Gann, don't want to hijack the thread but are you talking about bridging each of these amps or only the JL? I have the TN4.900 and want to use that for some AW6.5s/AT28s and either lids or TP pod speakers.
Gann, I've heard good reviews about the DD AW6.5 and AT28 or AT30 tweets. What are your thoughts regarding Focal k2 krc up front?? Also, If I go with 692's or another thought HAT 6x9, in the lids, would the 4180 be enough power to run all 4 speakers? Or amp for front and another for the lids tucked in the fairing. I need all the bag space I can get for travel. Regarding the JL 400/4 is that the XD model and two of them? Thanks for your help bro.

I like the Focals up front! They are just really sensitive speakers and they HAVE to be tuned just right or they will blow. With the BT4180 not having gain settings I'm not sure the KRC's and the BT4180 is a good match. I know guys who have ran that set up but I wouldn't feel comfortable with no control over the amp. But that's just me. The KRC's will sound great with that amp! For how long is the question? No worries on blowing the AW's they will take plenty of power.
Yeah the JL XD400/4. It's one of my favorite amps bridged. It's a weak amp if you use it to drive 4 speakers at 75 watts per speaker. Night and day difference when you run it bridged at 200 watts with two speakers. So yeah you would need two amps. Bridge one to the AW's and one to the 6x9's and it doesn't get any better than that!
But back to your original question. The BT4180 would be a good fit with the AW's up front and the Hat 6x9's in the lids. Those HAT's sound good back there and likewise the Moto 692's. But they sound much better bridged to the JL.

Only the JL my friend. No need to bridge the SS TN4.900. That amp will run any speaker out there with power. Again, Guy's go with all the name brand stuff and talk down about the SS not having good SQ. But IMO you can't beat the TN4.900. I love that amp to this day and I've gone through some amps over the years!! Pretty much all of them.
