DB Neo 4 amp Pros and Cons
T
Im on a 2011 Ultra. I am going to stay with the stock locations outside of tweets but, if I go with DD I was going to put either the AW5.25s or the CC6.5s in the rear pods. I just spent an arm and two legs on rebuilding the engine and a S-ton of powder coating, so my budget is not up where it was at the end of last year! I am debating on just setting up the fairing and going with a 2ch amp for now and then add on or go to 4ch when I get the pods upgraded. Budget is, I am willing to spend what I need to since I am going to do it in stages.
Still not 100% on the DDs I might look at some 2ohm speakers on the market as well.
Just a heads up, I over analyze every purchase ad nauseam! Doc says that is how I deal with my PTSD!! Drives my GF crazy!
If u want to do this once, even in phases, I really think u need to budget for the AW6.5s. CCs are good too if that better suits your budget.
As for the amp situation, you can go with a JL280/4 for about $150 and bridge that for the AW6.5. When u get ready to set up the TP, phase 2 will be another 280/4 and various options for that speaker but the AD 2100 coax is getting damn good reviews in the TP. Durable speak as well.
U can also go right after a budget 4 channel amp and just hook up one channel until u get the rear selection made.
Don't think u can go wrong w the JL280/4 and AW6.5 for the fairing but also want to make sure we get u in a position to build a amp platform that will allow u to grow into the TP speaks without wasting resources.
Look at the JL but also look hard for budget 4 channel amps that will get u 150 x 4 @ 4 ohm. Something like the PA RZ4 2000D is cheap as hell but we just need to make sure these will also fit under the hood.
Let us know ur thoughts and we will all assist with some of the initial selections and paths u think u might want to go down.

Thanks for your input, it is much appreciated! I used to be into this before i had children/responsibilities/and a mortgage. Now my kids are growing up, my responsibilities are dealt with responsibly and the mortgage is under control. SO it is time to start getting back to something I enjoy.
I have been impressed with the DD sound. I have heard the Soundz solution and have seen the price. Sounds great but dont want/need that on a bike thats rolling at 85. I put a lot of mile on the bike and want a solid sounding system but, think I can come close to a 3k system without spending 3k.
I am going to do the fairing first and then add. I will look up the amps you suggested. i have a friend that fabs steel all the time and I know we can make a mount for any amp I can find that will fit.
Gotta get my taxes paid for this year (always owe) then I am going to figure out my budget and the make the purchase.
Any idea where to buy? Ebay always scares me with the fakes and a lot of dealers run you through the ringer.
Thanks

Reach out to Haze at Bagger Audio Lab. He will share his 2 cents and also direct u on how u can get ur hands on the DD product. DD is very picky about their product sales so if u find them thru any source other than reputable & knowledgeable dealers, don't touch them. Haze just won the Baddest Bagger audio competition for the class he entered at Daytona Bike Week so I would say he smoke the above criteria as a qualified rep.
Get the JL from Crutch, Sonic or other big box stores.
Also grab a Schoche Motorcycle amp wiring kit or comparable. 8 AWG is perfect but 10 AWG will also work due to the short run. Make sure it's specific for motorcycles or u will get a short ground wire.
A 10 buck adapter to mount the speaks and drill bit to mount the tweet in the grills, cheap LIne out converter and ur good to go.

Is the stock head unit good for what I need or would you suggest upgrading that too? I see quite a few leave it and get a new flash but, outside of hand controls, the HU is lacking. I know I could hold off on that till later but just wondering your opinion. I have looked at the Sony MEX70 and the Aquatic with XM.

Of course a new HU can always improve your sound quality but it's really about your wallet and a couple other functionality things that will hold u back. Fully functional hand controls is a huge factor and can be tackled with the right install kit. The Aqua plugs right in so no worries there. Waterproof is s huge concern for many but can also be addressed with a rain cover. The Aqua is waterproof. Next would be the features like Blue Tooth, XM, CB and all that jazz. All that can be accomplished via the various models but I'm not sure about the CB thing. Have a buddy that is a "escort service" rider and they use CB to communicate w each other for blocking intersections and various other comm when assisting for Rally Rides, Military Rides, Funeral Rides, etc thus he cannot afford to lose the CB and is currently researching compatibility with aftermarket products.
So ur wallet and functionality will drive that decision. If ur talking just sound quality, the aftermarket stuff absolutely smokes the 2011 stocker HU.

As for features, Bluetooth and XM are a must. I dont really use the radio and have never used the comms or CB. I noticed on the Aquatic that it comes with a 200watt amp built in. Im sure that would be enough to run a rear set of speakers when i finally get them. But is it worth the extra dough? I do like the fact that it is plug and play and water proof. I lost a HU on another bike before, had the cover on but I guess it wasnt sealed completely and took a shix!

Been doing my reading and saw a few people really liking the Sound stream PN4.1000d. Thing is, it is 10.5 inches long. will that fit under an 11 fairing and if so, how would you mount it?
Ok did some more reading and it does fit but is a Major PITA so I will look on.
