Just looked that tray up and no way im spending $160 for that
My Harley dealer has a customer loyalty program where you earn points to turn in for gift cards so I used those points and had the dealer order the tray. No additional out of pocket cash for me. Too bad my dealer can't order BT stuff for me too.
Maybe its just me being the cheap *** that i am but i just cant see paying almost or more than $100 for a freaking amp mount.
It's a cost v reward decision u have to make. U stick with the stock tray, u simply eliminate some amp options. Not the end of the world but pay close attention to the recommendations regarding the amp platform that is being used.
As an FYI, the tray will get u an amp footprint of approximately 10 3/4 by 2 1/4 by 6 3/4. The Hertz HDP4 is real close to the max size.
The JM amp tray is made of SS and is a quality part. This tray allow more room to mount a larger amp and in some cases two amps. Phat Performance has them for $128.
Making your own amp bracket is a little more involved than just bending up some sheet metal and bolting it in.
There are some compound angles and holes placed in certain areas to retain components in place under the hood.
Of you get the angles wrong the fairings will not line up correctly and seal.
By the time you mock up make a template and make the final product you will be into the in house bracket for minimum of 6 to 10 hrs.plus material. So if you pay yourself $10 per hr and the money for the materials you are over the cost of the JM bracket already plus all the down time you could be doing something else.
