Is it really that bad? So the xm sound quality in the car is much different I'm guessing
We have it in all our cars, and yes it's much different. I drive a fleet vehicle so there's no cost associated with it.
And the sound quality is awful with the module. It isn't as clear and doesn't go nearly as loud. Depending on your data plan streaming Pandora BT is 100X better. Even an Ipod or thumb drive sounds better.
Lastly, and I guess it would depend on the head unit you don't get any song information. Like the title or artist.
when you had the 12 SG was it factory or aftermarket setup?
I had the OEM module with the OEM head unit. AND had an aftermarket Sony with the Sony module. Both setups sounded the same, like poo . Only thing was that HD module was a couple hundred bucks, had to buy some special harness, and an antenna. So big time poo with that set up.

me and you have totally different experiences. Yeap I have one in both my cars both work vehicles and my last 2 bikes...SQ is better than radio all day long...the amount of volume is less but a good amp and speakers you dont even notice that issue..
I have to say I never got bad sound from any of my Sirius units..

unfortunately on my 12 I went the way of "cheap" and had the aftermarket sirus unit in my saddle bag then I went with a aftermarket radio with it built in..
my 16 I just spent the money and got the modual for the stock HD radio...
I have the HD module. I agree...sounds like crap. I should cancel it but have so many other vehicles connected that it is just not that much and every now and then listen to it when I get sick of my downloaded collection.

Yeah it sounds like we do. Sometimes all this stuff is subjective, doesn't matter if it's audio, suspension, or exhaust. But I'm running a BT4180 so no shortage or power there.
I have the stock HK head unit, with the HD add on XM module and the updated antenna (76000221A). I also have the J&M XT Rokker 500W amp and 4 speaker setup on my RGU.
No issues with sound quality or reception. I do agree that the volume is a little lower than the radio/CD player, but with the amp it is not a big problem.
I understand the want for music in the boonies. Spotify has much better sound quality and better priced. You can also download the playlists, albums, etc. There are others; Amazon Music, Pandora, Slacker and more. I just happen to use Spotify. Works in most countries too for when I deploy which is another plus.
