Setting gains without a load is fine BUT all amps when spec for rated output are ran off a load and at typically a 1k wave. Now sub amps are a while different animal nit worth discussing. Unless you have a resistor bank the load setting is not possible. I have done both ways, especially initially checking clipping point with scope. But none the less gains are so sensitive I find making a mark trivial as even the slightest increment more or less can be as big as 50+ watts depending on amp and source voltage. YMMV. Practice the kiss method people.

On point, I have not used any of my tuning equip in at least a year so my ears are getting wiser. Just never had any luck setting a number and getting quality or effective sound.

What is an aceptable volume level for must people around me, it is extremelly low for me, and viceversa.
