Unsolvable audio problem?
The segue:
Let me start off by saying how well I've been treated by Mike and Donna at biketronics in helping me try to solve this problem over many months. Unfortunately, we were not able to solve it and believe that is is down to the HD head unit and HD’s proprietary programming.
The head unit is functioning as it is designed to do and that, is what we have concluded in the issue. Due to HDs ‘closed’ software, and the fact that dealers can no longer flash the systems for aftermarket amps, my biketronics roadglide special kit no longer functions well. I've been informed that this can happen in a smal number of bikes and that the best solution is to replace the head unit. The biketronics equipment is functioning properly.
The problem:
I had the Road Glide kit professionally installed over a year ago in my 2016 RGS. For a while it sounded great, just as it should. About a month in the right speaker would intermittently crackle. I pulled the fairing and made sure all the rca cables were tight. At one point in this journey I replaced the cables completely.
The problem shortly came back. Sometimes if I turned the systems off for a while and turned it back on, say 20 minutes or so, it would clear, sometimes not. The problem gradually became more frequent and finally the right speaker would only be clear for a few minutes into a ride.
I worked with mike over a period of a few months. The amp tested as good, and I replaced the lineleveler and right speaker. Same problem. I sent the old speaker and leveler back for mike to test and they both tested as fine.
An car audio installer put in a converter and both speakers work, but sound like crap at any decent volume on the road. I understand this is because it does not adjust the signal like the leveler did. I have a “working” stereo now but it distorts at louder volume. I still have the BT amp and Titan two speaker in.
The ask:
I wondering what I can do to correct or replace the stereo, ideally keeping the head unit. BT informed me that some aftermarket Audi equipment companies will not even sell amps if you intend on keeping the HD HU.
So, is a solution to install the Boom amp as it would be more compatible with the HU.? I've not heard good things about it and that it is not much louder than stock. In addition, I wonder if it would work with my BT speakers, or is it tuned to Boom speakers only, which I've also hear are not good?
I've also read on these forms that some folks like the Rockford Fosgate system (or other), but it seems that I'd run into the same problem with the BT due to the propriety HU that HD now seems to be programming to only work with HD audio components.
It's been a long and frustrating road with this system and I'm at the end of that road, considering going to helmet speakers, though don't really want to. Any advice is appreciated .

Does it work without the LL just sound bad. As in no crackle/popping in the right speaker.
Have you taken your bike to the dealership, updated to the latest software and had then reflash your bike to 0 amps 4 speakers. Dealers can do this?
where are you located. Last option is an aftermarket shop that can flash your HU with one of the flashes no longer offered by HD.

Hi, yes it works without the line leveler. Not crackling. I'm in San Jose, Ca, and have not had the bike flashed. I was told dealers can't do this anymore. I can try my indie guy and see if he's able to.

I know right, and he is still suppose to be on vacation for his last day. His wife is either napping or glaring at him right now! Lol

Ok so your next option is put the BT LL in now and see if it corrects the signal. Last option is find a shop that can perform the 8 speaker 2 amp Flash or a shop that can install a DSP and correct the signal manually thru tuning. Wish you were closer. We plan on offering mail in flashes and tunning after the fall.
