While I wait for my parts to arrive for my audio upgrade, I'm thinking since I'll have the fairing off, I should address the poor radio reception if there's a better option.
A few months ago I installed the HD fairing mount antenna kit, to rid myself of the rear fender whip. FM is "ok" not great, not even good, but is works. AM is horrendous. Not that I use it much, but I like news radio in the morning on the commute.
Since I'm pulling the fairing off again to install my amp when it arrives, is there a better fairing mount antenna you like that I should be using over the HD kit?
Kuryakyn has the tune trapper ,haven't tried but claims to be better.
I have the HD shorty on the fender, looks ok but no better reception than the cheap *** shorty I had before.
Seems like best reception came from the fugly whip unfortunately.
There is a youtube video for rerouting the whip hiding it along the frame rail.
Try googling Harley antenna eliminator kit. Worth a try I guess.
This might be it or have a link to it... https://*******/images/ZfUdZj
Mchad, chances are pretty high that with the D class CV-b52 amp you are putting in, you will lose FM signal completely. Not always, but a fairly high percentage do. Sad but true nature of the beast with D-class amps. As for the antenna, your best bet is to get away from the hidden antenna and go back to the whip, if that even helps.
By far the best antenna option is using the factory antenna or the smaller HD version. Wrap the antenna lead in the fairing with a product made to eliminate distortion for just the section that is in the fairing from HU back to the rubber sleeve at the neck stem. Then use 3M body molding tape to secure the stock antenna under the rear fender along the inside edge at the radius.

Yeah, I heard this too. I listen to MP3's 99% of the time. So its not so bad, just would have liked to have the option if needed.
I'll just leave it alone probably. Sorry for the waste of everyones time.
