I recently installed Rockford Fosgate speakers and a Rockford Fosgate 175W amp in my 2008 Street Glide and now my sound keeps cutting out. In order to get the sound to come back on I have to keep turning the radio off and then back on again. This happens 10 to 15 times in just a half hour time period and it is really getting annoying. Anyone have any ideas?
I was actually having the same issue on my 2000 UC with a Sony HU, BT2180, and Titan II 6.5s in fairing that I installed over 5 years ago. Yesterday I turned on the ignition, heard a loud pop and smoke from the speakers and loud hissing noise. I turned off the Sony and it stopped although the Sony appears to be powered with the time displayed. I talked to Donna today and will pull the fairing tomorrow. I am thankful for the lifetime warranty.
It sounds like the amp is overheating or clipping. What amp is it?
^^^^^^^^
That. What amp? I thought I was familiar with pretty much all the Rockford amps. I don't know of any we use on a motorcycle that produces 175 x 4 ?

I don't think its 175x4. 2008 SG. Ill bet he is running a pbr amp, fairing speakers only and the amp is over heating.

If it's the PBR300X4 it's definitely overheating!! lol!!
I'd say you're right Gypse!! I'm just trying to understand where the 175 watts is coming from?
I miss-spoke, it is the Rockford To share R1-HD2-9813, 140 Amp. It came with a mount, but also said you did use the Velcro that came with it and mount it directly on top of the radio. Maybe I will try to remount using the rack provided.

That amp is the same as hogtunes 2/70 just revamped and has no gain or filters. It also has a big history of overheating the same as a pbr. Did you buy it new or used? My guess is the coils are over heating. Take the outer fairing off and see how warm it gets. Regardless every time it cuts out, it will continue to do so until it just doesn't come on anymore. Your best bet is to replace it with a better unit.

Bought it new. Will check the temp when I re-mount the amp.
Is it still under warranty? if so send it back and get a refund. Even if they replace it, its just a matter of time before it will start doing the same thing. Sorry bro.
