I'm about to pull the trigger on an Aquatic AV AQ-MP-5UBT-HS head unit. I also want to upgrade the fairing speakers on my 2010 SG. Not looking for parking lot thumping bass, just want to be able to hear a little better at highway speeds. I was going to buy the Aquatic AV 6.5" Waterproof Speakers AQ-SPK6.5-4HB, but at $400 they seem a little pricey. I don't mind paying for quality, budget is not a concern, but there does seem to be a lot of less expensive speaker options. Are the Aquatic speakers worth the money, or should I look elsewhere?
Some of the best bang for the buck are the DB Design wdx6moto. About $185 from spork custom off facebook. I run them and they are very efficient good sounding speaks.

I don't think anyone here knows how those aquatic speakers sound and I'm pretty sure they aren't worth $400 a set. I'd say that's why they aren't flying off the shelves. No one I know runs em. As Gypsye said you can do a lot better for less. Budget not being a concern I'd take a look at the DD AW6.5's with the AT28 tweeters or the DB's that Gypsye mentioned in the component version. Spork can also tell you about those when you reach out to him or to keep it simple you can go with the coaxials. Both great speakers!
The specs for the head unit say Built-in 288W amplifier. That wont be enough oomph?
Not even close.
And personally I don't understand why folks feel they need to spend that kinda dough for those HU's. You could do much better with a Sony or Kenwood.

i can only assume the OP has the 6.5' touchscreen?
Get BikeTronics pod eliminator brackets, a JL Audio 400/4 amp and a DSP and run any type of speaker listed above. once and done
With all do respect, if you can send that AQ head unit back and get your $$ back, you can do a better quality HU for around $100. Those AQ head units have a history of going dead ALOT. We have seen a bunch of threads here asking for advice on what may be wrong with the setup only to find out the HU has gone bad. I just don't trust them and sure as hell wouldn't spend that amount of $$ and still need an amp.

Just my $.02
No, the 2010 doesn't have a touch screen, just a standard single DIN.

That "Built in 288W amplifier" is all marketing. You're looking at 72 watts per speaker @ 2 ohms. 36 watts per speaker at 4 ohms. No where near enough power to drive your speakers on a bike in the wind. As SB said. Not even close!!
