Default Components to pair with Sony XAV AX5000

Morning,

I installed the new Sony XAV AX5000 this Friday in my 2017 SG and it is night and day compared to the 4.3 stock unit. The screen is very visible in direct sunlight and just looks great, especially when coming from such a small screen. No more lag time changing between songs. Navigation via apple car play works very well and is a definite upgrade over no nav! Only problem I have is it sounds like crap paired with stock speakers as expected. Low volume isn't as bad but once you move it up, not even very loud it distorts and makes you want to turn it back down.

What I am looking for is good bang for the buck setup, not the cheapest but not the high high end stuff. I want to add fairing speakers only right now but think it would also be worth looking at 4 channel amps also to save me headache and money down the road should I add bag speakers. Will I also need speaker brackets, amp install tray? Line levelers are only for stock units or am i mistaken?
If anyone has any of this for sale shoot me a quote, rather buy from the guys helping then some of the box stores.

Thanks in advance

You are right for looking at a 4 channel amp. Have you checked the for sale section on the forum? There are amps and speakers abundant there.

I have but am lost on what amps/speakers work well together, also on what will work with the headunit I installed. Maybe I am just being a worry wart and should just throw some stuff in and see how it works. I want to ride the experience of these forums because I am not a audio guy by any means

I am not a Guru, but I have learned quite a bit here. I believe a lot of your problems stem from the crappy speakers that come stock. A.) they’re really only 5 1/4” B.) they’re only rated for 25w. The first thing I’d do, is upgrade your speakers. If that isn’t enough, you can always go and get an amp. Your system is already leaps and bounds ahead of the stock bs. Your signal is cleaner, so you shouldn’t need line levelers. If cost is a concern, I think I’d try some 6.5 Kappa’s in there, and see if that’s enough. Next step, maybe a Cerwin Vega B54 amp. If cost is no concern, and if you’re planning on some serious quality stuff, I’d lean on Gurus, like Tailwind, Ganicus, sbates08, TravelingGypsye and a few others that I can’t seem to remember at the moment. (Sorry guys, I’m drawing a blank at the moment)

Now, if you want to step up to bag speakers, you’re starting to step up into an expensive world. There are several manufacturers of speaker lids out there. Your wallet is your limit. I believe the easiest and least expensive route, is to purchase the Rockford Fosgate kit that allows the use of your stock lids. This will not only cut paint costs, it’ll ensure a high quality, water tight fit. This is the route I would’ve taken, had it been available when I started. For the record, my way, was waaaaaay to expensive and time consuming. The kit comes with waterproof RF speakers, that may be enough for you. Again, you’re stepping into a broad, expensive world. Be prepared! The best advise I have for you, through my own experience, know exactly what you want out of your system, have a budget, and buy once cry once. Look at as many videos as you can find. Many are here, in the Sticky: vid. section. Gypsye and I, are of the same mind on amps. We both love the Rockford Fosgate TM400x4AD. Many of the other guys have a criteria that the amp has to have 150+ Watts RMS. The RF puts out a tad under their demands. (112 x 4 in my case) which is perfectly fine for me, since I don’t want to win contest, just be able to hear it at 80. I have several videos on YouTube, highlighting my system, as does Gypsye. If your plans are to win contests, I can’t help you. I can tell you though, you won’t have much luggage room in your saddlebags

Thanks for the feedback, I just checked out one of your videos playing Foo Fighters, that sounds kick ***, amazing how much better then stock it sounds even if its a video played back on a computer.

So this is where I am at, feel free to tell me the route you would go given these options.
Speakers for fairing only right now
1. Infinity Kappa 62.11I
Amazon Amazon
2. Infinity Kappa 62IX https://www.crutchfield.com/p_108K62...appa-62ix.html any reason to not get the newer model?
3. Hertz HCX165 http://www.hertzaudiovideo.com/car-a...energy-hcx165/ Worth the few extra dollars?

Amp:
1. Rockford Fosgate TM400x4AD
Amazon Amazon
4 channel would be nice in case i do dive into more speakers down the road.
2. Cerwin-Vega B54
Amazon Amazon
4 channel also much cheaper then the Rockford. Don't understand the specs much but do understand the cost difference

Install
1. Amp hookup kit i
https://www.amazon.com/Harley-Davidson-Universal-Aftermarket-Amplifier/dp/B01MR5EN67/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1527506608&sr=1-3&keywords=harley+amp+wiring+kit https://www.amazon.com/Harley-Davidson-Universal-Aftermarket-Amplifier/dp/B01MR5EN67/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1527506608&sr=1-3&keywords=harley+amp+wiring+kit
2. The stock tray in my bike will work with these amps correct?
3. What about mounting the fairing speakers? Do i have to buy and brackets or modify the pods?
4. 2 short RCA cables.
5. Is it worth the time/money to insulate the speakers with dynamat or a alternative to it?
6. Do i need new speaker grills or will stock ones still work?

Am I missing anything from this being a good Friday night, besides the case of beer while I tear into this.

Honestly, it really depends on your budget. But, I would buy as much amp as you can afford. Those are not the only 2 amps, nor are they necessarily the best for your needs. I love my set up, you may not. The Rockford is probably a lot better than the CV. It’s also under rated by the manufacturer, way more capable and user friendly. It is also A class A/D AMP, that will not interfere with your radio signal. It’s 2 and 4 ohms, and bridgeable at a much higher output. Which many here may say, for a 2 speaker setup, it rocks! I try to keep up here, and believe the PRV’s and separate tweeters, (don’t ask me which) are the going favorites right now. As are the Hertz SV165’s., ( I believe) and again separate tweeters. If you’re like me, and do not want to deal with separates and crossovers, then yes, those HCX 165’s are fantastic. They will fit inside your pods, with some modifications or, you can do as I did, and mount them on the outside and buy some speaker grills that bow outward. Hog tunes sells some. I bought the HD Boom grills. As far as rca cables I don’t think you need them, as you shouldn’t need LL’s. I also stuffed my pods with poly fill. I was told it gives you a more full sound.
Your install kit, is very lacking. I believe you need a 4 gauge power wire, an in-line 40 amp fuse (might be 60) and it should be mounted close to the battery and away from your antenna. 16 gauge speaker wire is recommended, but, I’ve seen others just reuse the stock Harley plug and wire which are already in place. Best of all, you can buy most of this, if not all, on Amazon. But, Crutchfield offers on demands technical help.
Now, getting your pods off, IS A BITCH! You will need at the minimum, a flex head ratchet style, 7/16” box end wrench. Good luck!

For the money of that Fosgate I'd rather have the JL AUDIO m400/4 that I have. Love JL Audio amps.

Also, are you concerned about weather / water on that new head unit? Did you do anything to weatherproof it?

The JL cost more than the RF, and is not as powerful. Why do you like the JL better?
