I read a lot of posts with guys saying they want to install speaker "A" with amp "B" and are told that the amp wont push the speakers. How do you know that? Is there a "formula" that was used to determine how many watts a amp needs to power specific speakers?
Here's a example..... I have a PN4.520 amp. 100x4 at 4ohms, 130x4 at 2 ohms and 260x2 bridged at 4ohms. What would the wattage need to be on a set of speakers?
I know if the speakers are wired in parallel or series it changes the ohms and wattage
Sensitivity, ohms and design determines what a speaker needs and will handle. Even tho the manufacturer says it will work on 50watts doesnt mean you will hear it on a bike at 50watts. I tend to push speakers to the upper end of their limits to get the most from them at speeds. A pretty basic rule of thumb for me is a 4ohm coaxial or component will need 150w and a pa about 75w each. That goes up and down depending on the brand and application. Some amps will also put out more than advertised.
The lower the sensitivity of a speakers the more power it will take to get loud.
