I have thousands of songs on a Flash drive I have plugged into the Harley. It works great.
I added some more songs and the new songs I added don't show up in the artists or song title search.
When remove it from the bike and I plug the USB into my computer, it shows them there, and they play like the other songs, but when I put it back in the bike, they are not there?
Any ideas?
They are are in both MP3 and Windows Media Audio and neither one plays.
Double check the title of those new songs and while pluged in the computer, delete them off the portable drive and reinstall them on the drive. Ive had to do that before.
Yes, it does. I had it first in a wave sound format and that didn't work, so I changed them to WMA like the rest of them and also created some songs in MP3 and it doesn't play or recognize either of those.
I have them in a folder called Music, then the folder named artist, then a folder with Album title, and the songs are in the album folder.
The other songs play fine that way so I made sure it followed the same format.
I wonder if there are hidden files in there along with the music files that may be confusing the Boom Box?
I have read posts about some video files being accidentally mixed in with the audio files and that caused someones box to act goofy until they were removed. Also I just happened to think when you unplug the drive from your computer are you "ejecting" it using the little USB icon in the lower right of your task bar? If not sometimes junk or temporary files can be left behind that may confuse things. If when you plug the drive into your computer Windows offers to scan or fix it that may be an indication of corrupt files.
You could plug the drive into your computer and make sure Windows Explorer is set to show hidden files and see if there are any files in the folders that do not show up on the Boom Box that are not present in the folders that do show up. Maybe that may shed some light on the situation.
There's some older threads on this and it often boils down to where you got the files from. If they for instance came from Apple Music they will play in a computer or iPod because they only work inside the app. Throw the same files on a stick and they won't play. If you bought the file they should play in both. If you have a subscription and downloaded the file but didn't actually buy it individually it won't play outside the app.
Ok, I checked it for hidden folders.
I checked it and did find a video file on it and removed it. That could have been there for a long time.
I scanned it for viruses.
I checked the order of folders and music file types and they are consistent with other folders.
I do always remove it using the ejecting sequence on the lower right of the taskbar. Sometimes it says it is still being used, so I wait and try it again until it says it is safe to remove.
I did not plug it into the bike and just turned on the bike and ran it with the radio only, then turned it off and then plugged in the flash drive.
I re-selected USB Media and the flash drive plays songs on it but when I search by Artist it still does not show the new Artists and songs I added to it.
It's just crazy.
Roedie13 brings up a good point about DRM. I forget about Digital Rights Management sometimes because I never download any music. I buy the CDs and then rip them myself so that I don't have to worry about such things. Also both of my trucks have old CD players in them so the actual hard copies get used as well.
If you downloaded those files using some service maybe as a test rip one of your own CDs as MP3 but make sure your media player is not locking them with DRM. I think Windows Media Player might still do that if you do not uncheck the option. Maybe then add those files to the USB drive and see if it sees those.

Actually, this music I converted from a cassette tape using a tape to digital converter.
The songs were originally created into a Wave Sound format.
I downloaded a free Wave Sound converter and converted them to WMA, and also to MP3.
Maybe something in the converting process has a problem.
