I saw a video on YouTube one time where a guy mounted a good system on a Road King. I wish I had saved the link. Basically what he did was get a set of the JBL marine speakers in pods and mounted them on his crash bar. He then got lids for his bags with 6x9 speakers in them and powered the whole thing with an NVX micro amp in one of the bags. He just ran an audio cord to the cigarette pack pouch on his tank panel that he plugged his phone into. It sounded great for what it was.
Here's a link to an overblown version of what I was talking about:
In the video I remember seeing the guy had a standard crash bar that didn't dip out towards the edges like this one and he hung the speakers upside down pointing up towards the rider. It basically put the speakers in about the same location as factory lowers would but didn't look out of place on a Road King.

A large windshield helps deflect wind so you can hear the music. I started wearing ear plugs because my windshield is small and the ear plugs help eliminate the wind whistle so I can hear the music better. I'm debating on taking off the engine guard speakers and doing bag speakers because most of the sound I can hear comes from the bars.
