Made a post 2 weeks ago about upgrading my fairing speakers. Went a little different than originally planned. I went with the Sony 5000 head unit, Mmats 601cx 6.5s and the Mmats 4110 amp. For a 2 speaker setup Im More than happy for now. But I see what you guys mean that once you get the audio bug youll be addicted. Going to have to look into some other speakers for a little bit more low end. Appreciate everyones input and advice. You guys rock!
Welcome to the forums from Iowa also. Glad your liking the new system. These guys are a good bunch and will help get your ship to shore.
It just wont be good on your wallet. You now need something in the rear and lowers. lol. IA, I have heard good things about those mmat setups but as of yet, I have not tried them other than the pa 690.4 cx and I really like them.
Nice to see you are liking your mmats setup with your new set up. l am going with the 601cx in the fairing and pa 601 in the lowers with the 4110 amp along with a new Pioneer HU.Have everything installed and just have to run wires to the speakers. Looking forward to getting it finished up. Will have a report in a couple days. Have been jammed up working even though I am retired the last several weeks so havent got my system done yet. I will finish up my original post to follow through. Have to thank slodsm, hoyt, bates, yooperhog, badazzpred, and special thanks to marco for all of his help with specing out mmats equipment and setup.
Are you wanting to go to a 4 speaker setup to get a little more low? Or staying with 2?
If 4 where do you want the other set? Lowers are the absolute best option to go to 4 speakers because they’re way they fill in the front stage at highway speed is better than any other location on the bike.
I plan on adding at minimum 2 more speakers. More than likely I will do lowers simply because I ride so much I feel like I will get a lot more out of them. Probably looking at doing the mmats 601s in the lowers. Was finally able to put some decent miles on the bike today, so at some point this week I need to mess with the eq on my headunit and knock those higher frequency notes down a bit. Overall it screams and I am extremely happy. Buddy I was riding with today ended up just shutting his radio off and listened to mine. Said he could hear it clear as day on the interstate doing 80.
Mmats 601’s will sounds great in the lowers but won’t give you a crap ton of bass. The lowest clearest playing 6.5 I’ve had is the yellow basket ground zeros.
No matter what you throw in, it’s still a 6.5 and isn’t going to play super low. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the 601’s in the lowers as long as you keep your expectations realistic for how low they’ll play. I cross mine over at 100 and 4000 or so so they can play loud and clear. You can go a bit lower on the high pass but then you’re limited on volume because they’ll start to distort trying to play at 80hz at max power.
Also, the mmats have a decent size magnet so when you order them, get some 1/2 spacers to fit into your lowers.
