I have a 1994 road king that I am running an audio system works fine at idle but when I hit the throttle it cut off then regains power when I release the throttle any suggestions
All connections have been check even went as far as to try a completely different amp same results I have wired different ways same thing Im completely stumped
Is it completely loosing power at the head unit or just the sound dropping out? Maybe secure a volt meter on your remote wire to see if its loosing voltage intermittently.
Its a drop in power then once I release throttle it regains power and is fine at idle until I accelerate I was thinking maybe being an older bike I need to run a capacitor with the amp to keep the power stable
have you checked your charging system output? maybe not enough amps available for the audio amplifier from the base system of the bike. the older bikes like yours don't have the same output as the more modern bikes.

Based on the description, here is what appears to be happening:
Things function at idle.
Throttle engaged, engine RPMs increase, requiring increased frequency of spark (2X-3X) and the power to enable this. During this event, the audio suffers.
Once back at idle, things function.
My guess is that it could be an aging battery or insufficient alternator output. If the battery is fine, then you might look at upgrading the alternator. IMO, this is beyond a capacitor's function.
