Default Lower Speaker Install

Ok, I finally purchased a set of Hertz SV 165 for my lowers. Now to install. Question, can I leave the lowers on the bike and just remove the glove boxes or do I need to completely remove the lowers to install the speaker pods? I know it's just a couple of bolts the bottom bolt seemed to be a PIA on the lower when I installed them. I appreciate any feedback.

On my 13 it has bolts inside the glove box. No need to remove lowers to swap them out

You'll need to remove the whole assembly from the bike. Putting speakers in the lower fairings can be a bit tricky...at least mine were.

I have an 11 ultra and did not HAVE to remove them completely to put the pod and speaker in, I just did it to be on the bench to do the work. Just made it easier to get to things.

Ive done mine and am doing the wifes 18 RGS now. You don't have to take them completely off. The lower strap mount can stay on. But every other fastener comes off. Theres only one really tricky screw. One of 3 on the inside. youll know it because youll have to move the whole lower around to get at it. And when you put the last nut on, the one holding the cap on, use a 1/4 inch drive extension and a 10 mm socket and put a couple of small pieces of masking tape to hold that nut in the socket while you are trying to get it started. I learned that one the hard way.

I did this last summer. The one that holds the cap on, I’m pretty sure it has the be the most frustrating thing I’ve have to do on my bike and I’ve gotten in some sticky situations working on various things. I came really, really close to ripping the damn thing off the bike and doing without. Heed his advice and secure the nut. I ended up drilling a big hole on the interior of mine before it was over with because getting it lined up was testing my sanity. I have a piece on one of them now that is starting to come loose and I almost swear I will duct tape it in place before I take it off again.

Just curious to see if you got the SV 165's installed in your lowers with the BT4180 amp? I'm looking for lower speakers to compliment my WDX G2's in my fairing with the BT4180. If so, thoughts? Thx

JHC210,

Did you buy OEM Harley speaker pods?
I had to order the Boom Audio rear speaker enclosure for the lower and CVO grills, after i received my "nowhere near color matched", OEM Harley Barracuda lower fairing speaker pods.
This enclosure seals the rear of the speaker.
