I have a 2012 ultra Stinger 700 601.4cx fairing and lowers and 601.4 in the tour pak. The second set of CX's will be here Saturday I am thinking the stinger maybe a bit lite. So I am considering adding a vadm4 to the mix. Am I over thing this?
I say: try wiring up the (6) 601cx's and see how it sounds. My first thought would be to run lower and tour pak parallel and fairing on their own. If you don't like that, switch it up. Easy enough.
If it isn't to you liking, then add the NVX. You can't really go wrong with too much amp (as long as your careful with gain setting), but it's extra cost and wiring and space.

If you do wind up adding the NVX, bridge it to your lowers and cross it a little higher to get more volume from them.

I went this route at first but quickly realized I didn't like not being able to adjust the lowers and rear pod speakers independent of each other. Basically the lowers came into play before I could hear the rear pods at all. If you just want the rears for passenger enjoyment then you may not mind that scenario. If you want to be able to blend all three sets of speakers to where they sound about even you will probably need another amp.
If I were the OP I'd be tempted to try a micro amp for the rear. What I did was feed the four channels of my front amp with the front fader outputs of the head unit and then fed my rear amp with the rear outputs. For on the fly adjustment I used a couple of cheap RCA level controls inline with the preamp outputs (one stuck under each side of the ignition switch cover) so I could blend the fairing and lowers as I saw fit at speed.
I thought about a micro amp but I really want to keep FM. 90% of the time I use a usb stick or stream from my phone but I like the option. Most say the NVX amps dont mess with FM and I think I can fit it under the fairing.
