Electric noise in the headset
As I told a couple of posts above, I had the same annoying hum noise in my 2020 Ultra Limited. I had an accidente and the 2020 bike is gone. Now I have a 2021 Ultra Limited and guess what... The same noise at the headset! Only at the right speaker. Today I run a little test and pluged the headset at the passenger position. No noise! So the problem is just at the rider position. Wonder if it could have some relation to the intalation of the cb radio. Altough I had cb radio in my 2018 Ultra and no noise at all. The Ground Loop Isolator might be a solution but man, the bike is brand new! I shouldn't have to do DIY adjustments in order to solve an issue. A budy with a 2021 have the same problem. Took it to the dealer and they didn't find anything! May be the new rdrs system is the villain!
My electric noise is gone!
I'd like to thank hamah for the tip of using a Ground Loop Isolator. I decided to give it a shot, bought the GLI, male and female din 7 pin connectors and built a very rustic extension cable. Bingo! No noise! It took a lot of work, finding out the correct pins for the speakers but worthed it.
So, I had the solution and a new problem: how to install the GLI in a permanent way?
After a lot of research I found the wire harness that goes to the tank console at a very good price in a dealer here in Brazil. So i decided to order it to make a modification and replace the one that was in the bike. I wanted to have the GLI hidden under the seat. The part number of the harness is 69200127.
I identified the speakers wires on the new cable and made a "detour", so that the signal would pass through the GLI. After that, a replaced the cable in the bike and everything is working fine.
Hope this explanation can help some of you.
Onde again, thanks hamah.
This forum is really a great tool to solve problems in our bikes.
Issue solved!
I'd like to thank hamah who gave the tip of using a Ground Loop Isolator - GLI.
I decide to give a shot on the GLI and ordered one online. When it was delivered, I made a very rustic extension cable with Din 7 pins conectors in order to check if it worked. In this extension I used only the speakers pins. It took a lot of work to find out the speakers pins but worthed it because when I tried the GLI on the bike, the humm noise was gone!
Now, I had a solution and a new problem: how to install the GLI in the headset system, so that it would not look terribly rustic? After a lot of ideas, I decided to order a new audio harness _ the one that goes to the dashboard on the fuel tank, where we plug the headset cord - to make a modification and have the GLI hidden under the seat. I ordered a new one because if anything went wrong I'd still have the immaculated harness on my bike.
Well, I made a "detour" on the speakers wires on the new harness in order to make the signal pass through the GLI and it worked!
Removing the harness from the bike and installing the new one was a piece of cake!
Hope this can help someone with the same annoying issue.
