So I'm curious as to what everyone uses and thinks about tools for tuning. If you could only have one tool which would it be, DD1 or oscilloscope? What brand oscilloscope do you like and why? I want to get something to help get the most out my system but only want to buy one tool. Which would you recommend for DIY garage guy that doesn't work on much besides my own bike.
While yes that does work I always feel like I'm leaving something on the table. I also usually play the conservative side to not blow anything up. I want to get every last bit out of my equipment before I decide if I need to upgrade or not

Im the opposite, push that ****, if it blows it needed upgrading anyway!

If ur just wanting to get every last bit out of it a DMM and DD1 are that platform all day long.
you have to remember that when tuning with a test track there is no dynamic variance. you can set gains with the DD1 or a DVOM pretty easily. the trick is the tweeaks that you have to make once you start actually playing music, which has dynamic variance. then you find out that you are going to have to tweek some more in order to get the best that you can. My recommendation is to find an inexpensive DVOM O-Scope combination unit. I'm actually looking for one myself. there seem to be some decent enough units out there in the 100-200 dollar range that just be just fine for the average enthusiast. My current scope is kinda old and finicky and since i dont have to use it a whole lot i'm going to pick up something myself.

I have a cheap scope and a dd1. I use both often. I have found a couple amps that clipped early or didnt adjust well with a dd1. Thats where a scope is handy.
Example, a SD600.1D that I had showed distortion on the dd1 as soon as it started putting anything out.
