Default Sony 7000 on pre Rushmore bikes

Has anyone installed the 7000 on a pre Rushmore bike? There's a company called Fat Head Cycles that sells the radio and inner fairing kit for pre Rushmore bikes but I never read if anyone who made the investment.

I’ve bought the kit, but haven’t installed yet. Painting the whole bike soon, so waiting til disassembly to mock it up. Fathead was great to work with, ill say that.

There have been a few threads about them in the past. I really like them but there are other things bike related that I'd like to spend the money on.

OP you may want to read through this thread here discussing the Metra fairing:
Sony 7000 RF Amp Setup Advice

One thing that was discovered when the fellow installed everything is that the double din head unit gets raised up into the area where one would normally install an amp. He didn't even have room to install an RF TM400x4ad which is an easy install in the stock fairing. After I found that out I sort of gave up on the idea. I get caught in the rain a lot so I just modified my stock head unit by getting Iron Cross to install preamp outputs on it and piped it into an Arc PSM DSP.

With the stock size head unit I still had room in the fairing to put the Arc DSP, CB module, Arc Moto 600.4 amp, two PAC ground loop isolators, a PAC TR4 turn on module, a Metra SaddleTramp bluetooth module, and the power supply for my GPS and phone. Oh and I also have sound deadening material on the inside of the outer fairing. The fairing goes on without forcing.

It looks like you have a nice system setup now. Until we get pics of some amps mounted in the fairings it might be wise to wait and see how things pan out. If anyone has mounted an amp in those new Metra double din fairings please chime in. I don't recall reading about any yet.

I have installed double din radios in pre Rushmore RG's easy enough but it does cut into amp room. If you use a short media player double din you'll have more room for amps or whatever. The same would be true for SG's.

I just had a conversation with Cliff at FatHead Customs about the 7000 unit. Its definitely not for me. Here's the highlight of my conversation:
1. He said they're not sure if the 7000 is compatible with the Sena 20 (which I use). He said people call asking that question all of the time but people don't call back with feed back.
2. He also said that it's not truly waterproof but they offer a 3 year warranty if something goes wrong. Sony doesn't honir the warranty if it gets wet because it's not intended for use on bikes.
3. I have the Biketronics Radio Retro kit. I would have to remove it and use their kit ( which does the same thing)
4. I have the Harley Air Deflectors. The Metra fairing doesn't have the holes, so I would have to drill into the fairing.
5. I have Yaffe 12 inch bars. The Metra fairing is made for 1 inch bars. Modification is necessary.

He did say they can do the install since I'm 5 hours away. The charge is $300. For me, as cool as the radio looks, it's not worth the headaches.

I'll keep my current set up. But it was a pleasure speaking to him. It's worth a phone call if anyone is seriously considering this unit.

Thanks for the update kryingame that's a lot of good info that helps us make decisions. I never could tell where the info about the 7000 being water resistant originally came from. Shoot even marine rated head units die sometimes if they get too much water poured on them.
