Default Sony XAV-AX7000 HU

Since this has been out now for a little while, I'd thought I solicit any feedback from those the have this installed. I have the WHIM, Evo 20s's on my '15 Ultra limited but I'm still not happy with the cumbersome NAV, no Android support, etc.
I like the features of this HU, being able to create custom routes on Google maps and just have them navigate right from my phone. I'll be selling the stock HU and WHIM if I go this route. I know I'll lose the EITMS, oil pressure, and temp readings (Don't use them much anyway) and the hand controls will be a little limited. I really like the 7000 setup at FatHeads. I'm just looking for experience with actual users. I know the 5000 has been around for a while, and the 7000 has some added features (anti-glare screen for one) so bring all comments.
TIA.

Do you use any wireless headsets with it? I have the EVO 20s (Harley branded) and I just want to make sure they will work. It seems they will via the bluetooth connection. I'm not worried about losing CB (rarely use it) or the intercom since the EVO's can intercom directly (much better than through the HD HU IMO).
Do you miss being able to see the EITSMS setting? Is the illumination of the Sony HU adjustable at night?
Sorry for all the questions, just want to be sure. TIA

The headsets will NOT work with the Sony units (AX5000 or AX7000) in the manner you hope. Both of the Sony decks are Bluetooth receivers: they do NOT send data via Bluetooth. The deck interfaces with your phone for Bluetooth audio and calls. In a car environment, their included mic can allow you to make and take calls, though a couple guys have said they mounted the mic on their inner fairing and could talk when stopped. Most don't bother connecting the mic (I didn't on my AX5000)- and in Fathead Cycle's installation videos, the mic isn't mentioned or connected.

Again, you will NOT get audio into the EVOs from the Sony XAV-AX7000. To get music to the EVO 20S, you'll have to pair the headset directly to your phone and use the phone to play music (whatever source). I think that connecting to AA/CP via USB to the head unit might block your Bluetooth music though, but I could be wrong on that. It's been a while since I tried to use my EVO 20S (in my modular helmet) with the phone and still connected for Android Auto on the head unit.

As for missing "data"- my '17 no longer shows me if the EITMS is active, ambient air temp or oil pressure (good/not good is all I had though). I don't miss the info, and my EITMS is turned off due to the PowerVision. As for dimming- it doesn't "auto dim", but the screen will change from "day" to "night" display of the maps, so it's not blindingly bright. Just don't set Google Maps (in AA) to "Satellite", because that view does NOT dim, and it is distractingly bright. (This is on my AX5000; Sony's interface didn't change markedly between the two models).

CarPlay does. It block Bluetooth connections. The usb connection will take precedence, but you can change the audio out to play on which device you prefer.

I had the 5000 on my 17 Limited and since moved to a 2020 trike with the GTS.
The carplay worked good. I mounted the microphone on the inner fairing but it was useless unless stopped with the bike off. Answering a call while riding was difficult since the person on the other end could not understand what you were saying. The hand controls worked but only to advance a track or station or turn up the volume. You could not use the right hand control to move around on the screen. I missed that since you did not have to fumble around the touch screen to navigate small menus. That brings me to the touch screen. I had to sew metallic thread in to my finger on my gloves as it uses capacitive touch not pressure. Also it's not technically waterproof even if you take steps to shroud the inside of the unit. Water finds its way into the touchscreen and fogs up or it malfunctions until it dries out. I can imagine that would take its toll over a few soaks. There are front covers out there but they were bulky to put on and off.

Default Crazy question?

So phone is plugged into the 7000 via usb for CarPlay. Headset (20S in this case) can pair to the phone. Can hit the phone button on the headset to connect to Siri and issue commands to the phone. It works but has some quirks.

The included wired Sony mic doesn’t work very well on the bike, and the 20S won’t pair to the radio but I’m wondering - could you plug a Bluetooth dongle of some type into the mic jack on the 7000, then pair the Sena with the dongle?

in theory this would allow you to use the voice button on the handlebars (a la boom audio) and issue commands to the phone with the Sena via the Bluetooth dongle plugged into the mic jack.

Crazy idea?

You're duplicating the function of Siri. You already are commanding your phone with Siri. You don't need to talk to the radio. What are you going to tell your radio that you can't tell your phone?? The radio is just displaying your phone. That's it. It's just a receiver. The included microphone is exactly the same as using your headset paired to your phone.

I do have a question about the ax7000's touchscreen. The radio has been installed for a couple of weeks, but haven't ridden the bike due to installing the rest of the system/weather. I finally got it out on the road over the last couple of days, and the touchscreen seems to be not super sensitive working with touchscreen gloves. Bare fingers work fine, but I've tried two pairs of touchscreen gloves and it's hit and miss. Anyone else have this issue? Any recommendations?

Thanks!
