I got the NVX 4 channel amp when I did my upgrade. I agree with everyone else - you won’t tell the difference while riding until you put the amp in.
From my understanding too, most speakers get blown from not having enough power going to them (as in a stock or sometimes even an aftermarket head unit), so be careful not to turn the volume up too much until you put the amp in.
my opinion and a common one here, the Stinger 700/4 amp can be had on Amazon for $175. Good bang for the buck... Personally if you get an amp I'd rethink the Kappa's... I'm part of the MMats 601cx fan club..again good bang for the buck...and it's great if you can avoid buying then later upgrading ... rinse and repeat...
Metra ST-AK8 is a decent amp wiring kit with OFC wire for under $30 If your just doing the fairing speaks for now ... also need a BT Line Leveler ... under $600 and you are well set to expand to lids or lowers...

huh, good to know. My buddy just installed the RF 400 amp and bag speaker kit on his 17 sgs now he is just waiting to get it flashed. I thought I would try to just do amp and front speakers for now on a budget, seems he spent 1400 when done
Here's the problem you're facing on the new 14 plus systems. The Harley Head unit is designed to work with the Harley 2 ohm speakers so if you are only upgrading speakers then you should go with the 2 ohm rated Kappas mentioned here. I think you're going to find the speakers in these fairings are a bitch to get to. They made it pretty difficult to get to all the screws and bolts holding them in and they are all different sized heads from 20-30 torx to 3/8 bolts. You'll need an extension and swivel head to get at 3 3/8 bolts as well which was the worst part.
Take it from me as I just swapped out my fairing speakers and added 2 lowers on my 2018 Ultra Classic without an amp. It sounds decent at low speeds but still not powerful enough at 80 mph.. For all that hard work it doesn't make much sense to do just the speakers. I'm sure you can do it for under $600 if you do the install yourself but here is some factors you'll need to consider. Amp and speakers maybe $300.00, i'd spend a little more o the best quality speakers you can afford, adapter for amp install $70, have the radio flashed by local audio shop $100 or buy the DSR1 from Rockford Fosgate for $270.
From everything I've read the DSR1 seems like the way to go. It allows you to tune from your phone without the need for an indie shop flash, it gives you options for expansion down the road ie; lid speakers or lowers etc. So when you consider you need to buy, amp, speakers, dsr1 and take the time to do the install you're probably better off investing a little more for a better set of 4ohm speakers so you can pound them nice and loud with the amp you decide to install.
