Fairly new to this forum as far as researching goes...I've been on Roadglide.org for the most part but I digress....I'm having some anxiety about my audio for my bike. I have a 2013 RGU that previous had RF punch speakers in the fairing and tour pak paired with a Punch amp and what i think is a DSP. DISCLAIMER!! I'm no audio guy! This is why I am reaching out lol
I have bought all new speakers and added some as well. I have DS18 Pro SM-6.2 mounted in the fairing, ProSM-6.2 for the lowers and Pro SM-8.2 with Pro TW-710 tweeters for the saddlebag lids that I am adding. All these DS18 speakers are 2ohm..as I said...not an audio guy, these were recommended and so far I'm happy with the fairing mounted speakers and they are LOUD.
Now my questions for the Forum are this.....
1) Do I need 2 amps to run all 6 speakers plus the tweeters? Or will one amp do the trick? I plan on getting rid if the RF Punch amp.
2) Do I need a DSP?
3) If running 2 amps, I can have each speaker on its own channel. Is this more better?! Lol
and Most importantly
4) What amp/amps do you recommend? I've been looking at SounDigital 800.4D Evo and 400.0S Evo
I also realize that a lot of guys are running 4ohm speakers, which I came to find out AFTER I bought my DS18's. I'm ok with this for, I think they will give me the sound I want. I can always upgrade the speakers later on.
I have a similar setup to what you have just different brands. The SD 800 and 400 should do the trick with a SD 250 on the horns. You will want a dsp for sure.

If I counted right he has 6 2 ohm speakers plus tweeters. Why does he need 3 amps to power it
? From the looks of the speakers he is budget minded and not looking to drop 600 on amps. Look at the NVX VADM4 and NVX VADM2 and a dsp. should be able to buy them for about 300 for both.

I said they'd do the trick because he mentioned them in his 1st post. Nvx makes great amps but only offer 100w a channel @2ohms vs SD @200w each and speakers are rated at 200w rms ea. 3 amps because he has 6 speakers and 2 horns. I wouldn't wire 3 2ohm speakers to a nvx and expect it to not fry itself. Even if he ran all 6 speakers on their own dedicated channels on nvx he still needs a 3rd amp for tweeters.

Well his speaker choice is interesting. 2 ohm really paints him into a corner. He could do a 1200.4 4 ohm and wire the fronts 2 channels in series and 3/4 to the 8's. Then any micro amp for the tweeters. I just wonder with the budget speakers he bought if he is willing to drop 600-800 on amps.
This is true. I've seen a lot of push towards ds18 for some reason but didn't see it in competition and no one near me runs them. Maybe cut back on speakers to allow more for amps and dsp? Hard to say guess need him to chime in
