Hello
Is the Rockford fosgate saddle bag speaker kit reusable?
I thought I read somewhere they are but can't seem to find that tread.
Are you talking about the speaker grill cutouts/templates? If so, they are supposed to be single-use only as RF directs you to toss them after being used. I bought the grills and mounting hardware only as a package directly from Rockford Fosgate about two months ago for $90 (not long after they pulled them off the market). I then called RF a few times to get the cutouts to do the install and they would not sell the templates separately. To get the templates and mounting hardware you now need to buy the whole lid speaker kit for over $500, which includes their speakers (which I did not want).
I got lucky- a buddy had the RF speaker cutout templates from a previous install and we installed everything last week and it turned out great. Instead of disposing them after a previous install he didn't didn't cut through and destroy them like RF recommends and uses them now on other installs.

Dang, for around $500 I bought a set of HogTunes lids and painted them to match the bike and I got to keep my original lids in case I ever needed them. I realize what I did was more trouble but it seems Rockford could be losing sales by not selling the kit without the speakers.

Absolutely. It sounds very short-sighted but they must have their own reasoning. A kit w/o the speakers would capture a lucrative niche' market, you would think.

Yup. I talked to them on the phone when I ordered my kit. That was after searching everywhere for the template only. They would indeed capture a larger consumer base offering the kits without speakers.
I didnt go the aftermarket lid route because my laguna orange color adds about 300 bucks to an unpainted lid....yeah about the same price in the long run, but some of the aftermarket body pieces are cheaper and thinner. Not all, but quite a few of them. I think I've seen some ppl reporting issues with the cheaper lids holding heavier speakers.
Yes that's exactly what I was talking about. I have the kit and just wanna help friends save some money. Thank you
Not a pic of my install but you will get the picture here. My friend took the intact cutouts/templates and placed them over the lid. He drilled the holes in the circular holes you see on the templates and used a Dremel to cut along the straight lines on the template but instead of cutting all the way thru and rendering the template/cutout useless he simply ditched the template and freehanded the rest of the cuts (using a straight edge), thus preserving the template to use again on other lid installs. It came out perfect.
My guess is that RF was hip to the fact that many were doing this and promptly discontinued the grills and mounting hardware as a standalone kit. Now you can only order just the grills separately or order the whole kit w/speakers.
