What do you consider "poor" reception? Are you in a rural area? Do you have a visible antenna or is it hidden? I have a 2014 Street Glide Special with stock antenna and live about 25-30 miles from powerful Detroit FM stations and I'm about at the bikes limit. Much farther away and it starts to fade fast. I have a couple of friends who removed the stock antenna in favor of a in fairing type, their reception is worse than mine. Hope this helps.

Touchdown I'm beginning to think no radios offered by Harley ever have decent reception. I have tinkered with radios on the showroom floor and they won't catch a single station. I realize they are inside but folks with radios on their desks can pick up stations. My old 2010 has the long steel whip antennas like used to come on the earlier bikes and that helped a little, but I still only get three or four stations clearly. Yes I live in a rural area but on a ride this weekend through the Blue Ridge mountains a guy had a Yamaha with a batwing knock off fairing on it. He had a cheap radio shack looking head unit with a short rubber duck antenna and he was picking up stations clearly that my stock HK couldn't even get a whiff of.

Maybe compare your bike to one the dealer may have sitting outside on display. That might give you a better idea as to whether you have a real problem or just typical Harley FM reception.

I road the bike for a year or so before the bad reception problem. I lubricated the connections to the antenna and maybe they were loose too that seemed to help.
