Grind off just the thickness of the speaker. Then the grill will sit flush on top of the speaker and flush in the pod.

Default Metra Lower Speaker Grills

I have the Metra BCSPG - UNIVERSAL 6.5" MOTORCYCLE SPEAKER grills.

They are similar to the CVO lower grills.

I think they are perfect.

In the box with the speaker pods was a set of rings.

What are these for?

Do they go behind the speakers to add depth?

Yessir. Just about 3/16" or so. That will allow the grill to sit flush against the speaker as well as flush inside the pod.
