Default Adding mid bass drivers to saddlebags

Hello,

I posted this to a RG specific forum but also wanted some feedback from the group here.

Currently have a 2019 RG Special with Soundz set up. I have their carbon 6.5 uppers and lowers with their iron 6x9 lids. I'm using their 4 channel amp with the dsp to power everything.

The system does everything I ask of it except thump in the parking lot and around town. However on the highway, I can hear the music loud and clear. I understand I wont hear low freq after 30ish mph.

I'd like to keep what I currently have, or as much of it as I can, and add some mid bass drivers to the bags. I do not want to brace or seal my bags however I would consider removing the lid speakers if it helped. I dont think I've ever actually heard anything from the lids while underway.

I've heard great things about Da Funk Shop but would like to have a plan in place prior to traveling.

Here is what I'm considering;

1: Replacing my 6x9' lids with the 8" loud lids
2: Keeping my 6x9 lids and adding a second set of 6x9s in the bags facing the rear wheel (cleanest option)
3: Putting an 8 or 10" mid bass in the bags facing the rear wheel

I'd appreciate all and any feedback.

To get thumping you're going to want at least 8"s mid bass in the bags, would also make you need to purchase another amp. You are limited with the current setup you have. Any additional or different speakers would require a different amp(s).

if you go with 10's in the bags, with the right power and choices and a dsp in play you will have thump even at 80. i know a guy in delray if that is closer for you.

While all of this is true, if the OP refuses to at least at a minimum brace his bags, he'll always be chasing a rattle.

Thanks for the replies.

I should clarify my original post. I would like to keep the upper and lower speakers with the 4 channel amp that’s in place.

I want to add speakers and an additional amp to the saddlebags.

if I can fit 10s down in the rear corners, I’m sold.

Which 10s and what amp are getting good reviews here?

thanks again.

If you add 10’s you need to do something with your lid. You can keep that lid but you’ll want to change the speaker type, at a minimum baffle the 6x9 but that’s not the preferred option.

the Soundz DSP is the Metra version and not sure you can tune it yourself so you’ll need a new DSP.

adding a set of 6x9 in your bags, along with a better 6x9 in your lid with a programmable DSP could be your cleanest/easiest option but likely won’t get down as good as 10 does. A single 8 is hardly worth the effort. It’s good start but will leave you wanting more.

I used to own DFS, Henry’s a good dude....he’ll recommend 10’s to you and he probably has more 10 inch install in stock bags than anyone in the country.

I installed 2 6x9's in each bag facing the wheels and 1 horn tweeter and replaced 1 tramps 800x4 to sound digital
800x4 got a little more room in the bag. either case
it looks like you will be changing your lids or adding a 10".

By the way these are 14 bags on my 09 UC
