I really do not like to share details on pricing for shops. Roughly labor to install a new HU, One large JL amp Amp in Fairing, 1 mid range speaker in bag (for some bass), and swap out the 4 existing stock speakers with something better. Also they recommended a device to go along with the amp where they could tweak the system a bit better. I forget what that was called. I think a Signal Processor.

Wasn't asking for details on pricing. But speakers in bags....thats probably quite a bit of fab work....assuming they're putting some speaker inside facing the wheel.

Yes DSP is that device.

When you posted 2k for a budget, thats a good amount....doing your own work and you could get a very good system up and running. If you have to pay someone for the install, then yes it could be much more depending on what you're wanting. Not to mention if you;re adding speakers in places that arent already set up for them...like lids or bags, then holes would have to be cut and fit.....you get the picture.

If it were me, I'd start with upgrading your fairing with some GZ spl 6.5 coax speakers, an SD 1200 evox amp and a DSP like the dayton 408. While thats a simple setup, the sound will amaze you and you might be happy with just that. Baby steps.....

Then if you want more, you can start thinking about rear speakers. 6x6s wont get you a ton of bass, but you'll notice it definately. You'd either need to buy the RF or Boss lid kit and cut your stock lids, or buy new lids already setup for speakers.

Or, for more bass, you could buy 8" lids and go that route.

But like I said, I think you;ll be very surprised with just the GZ's up front to begin with. And install is easy enough.

Thanks good advice. I can get my hands on a RF Stage 3 Kit for south of 2k. That includes System includes a replacement digital media receiver, two 6.5” fairing speakers, two 5.25” TourPak speakers, two 6x9” saddlebag speakers, a 400 watt 4-channel amplifier, and complete installation kit. Besides the price , what is the issue with these kits?

LOL. Ok. What is your recommendation for a HU that will still work with my Handle Controls? Can you help me put a shopping basket together ? New HU, 4 Speakers to replace stock ones, 2 6x9s kits for lids. amps. wire , etc. I can Zelle or Paypal you some cash for your time. Da Funk guys said I could get away with one large JL amp in the fairing which sounded attractive. I have installed systems in cars and boats before so I am sure I can figure it out. I have had the bike apart already for other upgrades. I love JL.

Do you have the 6x9 lids already or you need the cutout kit?
And are you doing speakers in lowers or tourpack?

The RF lid kit was what I was recommending...then swap out the RF speakers for something better. Basically its a template to cut your lids, then a speaker mounting pieces and speakers for around 450. Boss kit is cheaper, but same deal with the speaker...you want to replace it.

  • I do not have existing speak lids. Everything is 100% stock Audio wise. I am not afraid to cut them.
  • I have never had good luck with anything Boss (speaker wise anyway)
  • Currently I have lowers off. I am ok with putting them back on if its a better investment to put speakers there instead of in lids. Meaning - whatever sounds better. Same with tour pack .I do think 6 total speakers is enough.
  • One larger amp preferable if design could accommodate.

Thanks for all the help!

1: ok then boss kit or RF kit. Ether one works great, but you'd need to swap speakers with either one as well. Either the mmats 690cx or the hertz spl 6x9's are a good choice. Mmats will pretty much fit...not sure about the hertz
2: again the boss kit is pretty much the same as the rf only cheaper...use either one
3: you'll get more sound while riding from front stage. lowers will only add more sound from the front. Currently im only running front fairing and lowers. Both 6.5 speakers, but are mid bass components with tweeters on separate small amp and DSP
but there is some value to 6x9s if you go that route. DO both if you're good with 6 speakers.
4: amp or amps will depend on speaker selections and how many speakers and how they would be wired. Once you decide on speakers and locations, someone could recommend your amp(s)
