Default Several Questions

Hi All, I have a 2012 SG with a Metra inner fairing, Sony AX700, MMat 601cx in the fairing and a nvx vadm4 amp. All sounds good. My best friend just installed a Diamond Audio pro system in his 14 SG with stock hu, Our sound is very similar but the horns on his sounds really good. I’m considering ordering the horns from Diamond and was wondering if anyone has used horns with the MMats like mine or if this would even work? 2. With my current set up I lost all my FM stations. I have the HD inner fairing antenna. Is this because of the nvx amp or did I do something incorrectly with the install of the amp? A local shop told me that I needed a shielded amp? They suggested a JL marine grad amp. Any help on these questions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

I wouldn't run horns in the same location especially as a non DSP setup.

If you are trying to take ur audio to the next level I would abandon FM entirely and simply use far better sources. If u need it for a ball game or something the use an app based platform. FM is just a low tier source for audio.

JL is very good quality audio but depending on ur audio plans there may be far veered amps that suit your overall objectives.

If FM is your go to and a personal mandate there are a few amps that are sort of FM friendly but most class D amps just don't do well when packed into a fairing with antennas. There are some other strategies to mitigate the FM decay caused by the class D amps but imho it not worth the effort when ur modern day phone can be the source for damn near any FM station around.

Tailwind, thank you for your response I really appreciate it. If I were to add a DSP would the same location, in front of the mmat’s be a ok thing to do? I understand that others have placed horns where gauges are but I really don’t want to go that route if I can help it. Thoughts?

Thanks for the explanation on the amps and FM stations. When my friends install was done he still had his FM and I was curious why I had lost mine. It’s not a big deal really. I use my phone and stream my music through CarPlay. Was just wondering. Thanks again!

I can attest to the fact the NVX will kill all FM reception. I have a JL XD400 that is FM friendly (not that I used it much). When I added rear speakers and the NVX to power them, FM is no longer an option, pretty amazing how little reception there is now..

MikeTD3, thank you for your response. I’m just beginning to understand a little bit of this audio stuff. With CarPlay on the stereo it’s not that big of a deal not having FM but it’s nice to understand why. Do you have any thoughts on the horn question in my post? Thank you!

If you just want to retain, or get FM reception back, the stinger spx700 amp will do just that. And it works well with those mmats. I ran that amp and speakers plus mmats rear 6x9 speakers in my last bike and had no issues with FM reception.
