System is not over the top, but should be plenty loud, and also hoping to get a nice clean tone. My music is pretty much Classic, Rock, Rock, and Alternative. No rap or hip-hop or anything too bassy. Thought about adding a sub, but the cons seem to outweigh the pros at this point. This is a semi-daily driver for me, so I am looking for moving sound, not sitting in a parking lot being obnoxious sound. Also I use my bags so not ready to give up that room yet.
My initial goal was to stay in the sub $2000 range. As I looked and priced things, that quickly went out the window. Could it have been done, most likely. But like they say, the devil is in the details, and all those small things add up fast. I also did not want to end up with buyers remorse next month. I could probably shortcut a few things or omit others, but once I committed to spending there was no turning back. I am not even really sure what this has ended up costing me yet. I am sure I am missing a few things still, but at then end will try to come up with a complete list of what I spent. A lot of things I plan to do may be overkill for what I am doing, but hopefully if I do choose to expand in the future, I am also trying to future proof my work.
I bought my own Techno Research flash tool, so I can play around with the best tune, so had to go to HD dealer first to get the Stage 2 Flash removed. Read in several places that you can flash right over it, but the TR software is pretty serious with the big red warning to not flash over Stage 2, so I emailed them, and TR said that they get unpredictable results when flashing over Stage 2.
DAY ONE:
With that done, first step was to take bike apart and remove all the old Boom Stuff.
Removed Tank, Bags, and stripped out the old Boom II Wiring Harness
Removed Boom amp and rack, removed speaker pods for trimming
About all I got done on Day 1.
Stay Tuned...

Didn't have much time today, but got the speaker pods trimmed up for the GZ Mid Bass speakers. Was not much interference, but enough to cause an issue. Probably cut out more than I needed to, but was limited by the Dremel and access. Only took about 10 minutes tops to trim them both. I have read a few things and am not sure whether to use polyfil in the pods, or seal them, or port them. I think for maximum flexibility I am going to fully seal the pod, then drill out a 1.5" hole in the back. For now I can just duct tape the hole covered, and this will give me access to add polyfil or remove it, and also have a port. When I decide which way gives me the best sound, I can do the final fix from the back without having to remove the pods again.
Also got the Horns and New Grilles fitted and installed. American Hard Bag makes a nice kit for this. Everything fit up real nice. Don't use the screws they sent, the heads are soft and strip easily. The OEM screws are torx and less likely to strip out. When reusing this type of screw into plastic i also give the screw one wrap of teflon tape, helps it hold better and not loosen up.
Took about 1/2" off the inner ribs. After Cutting pods are still structurally strong. Still need to go back and sand it all smooth and clean up the insides. Be easier when I take the actual pod apart to seal it tight.
Be carful when trimming the rib on the right. It is angled to the inner surface and a little tricky. Go too deep and you may cut through the pod itself.
Grill and horn from the front.
Grill and horn from inside. Screws supplied have very soft heads. Ended up removing them and going back to the HD OEM ones. One wrap of teflon tape and they fit nice and snug.

That is how they came wired out of the box. Looks like they soldered them down, then bent them flat.
Several people on a not as nice place as this forum, also bashed me about the GZ speakers. I guess the Coax are so popular and the most used, that most folks forget they make Mid Bass only also. My purpose in doing it this way was so i could tone down the horns a bit, and step up the mid bass with the DSP and not have to rely on a crossover which would have limited me.
