Howdy,

Used the search function...found a lot of info on the Picaso 1000.4 but nothing on the Rubicon.

Has anyone ran this amp? Claims of 125wx4 on 4ohms with such a small foot print...similar to the Stinger amp.

@ $217CAD it seems like a bargain and will easily fit the fairing.

I ran the PN4 for a few years, it was rock solid.

You can't get the stinger amp in Canada? I havent seen the amp you're talking about, but I did have the SS PN4 520.d amp. Its on but not as efficient as the stinger amp. Also at least the PN amp kills kills FM reception, if thats important to you. Stinger will not. This amp doesnt look like the same footprint as the stinger either. I paid right at 200 for the stinger I used to have, but realize they've gone up quite a bit since then.

No I can definitely get the Stinger in Canada...but I just saw the Rubicon yesterday. Back in the 90's, Rubicon amps were the s*it! I know they aren't owned by the same company, but thought maybe the internals would be better than the Pn4?

Stinger is about $550CAD to me.

I ran the PN4.1000d for a while myself. It was a great bargain but it had two shortcomings that I eventually got tired of. One was that it just flat out fried FM reception. The other was once I started pushing it really hard it overtaxed the charging system. I guess their smaller amps wouldn't have that particular problem but I thought I'd toss that out there.

Basically if you can afford a better amp I'd say do so. At high volumes they sound cleaner than the SS amps do as well.

Can't get my hands on either. Only other amp I can get is the Diamond Audio HXM800 but it's almost $900CAD for the same wattage as the Stinger & Rubicon...but clearly there has to be a noticeable SQ difference.

I know...I just ran it for 5 months on 4 Alpine Type R's.

The reason I am entertaining another brand is because of all the reviews I read of the better SQ people got with the Stinger over the Pn4.

Now with that said, the Rubicon Rn4 is a different model than the Pn4. According to Soundstream, it has different circuitry (better SQ?) but I don't know...hence why I asked if anyone has ran the Rn4. It's also an 1" smaller, and has all the hook up's right in front, with adjustments on top (perfect for a batwing fairing).

I don't ever listen to FM as I ride so no big deal there.

The PN4 ran my Type R's incredible well. When connected to HIGH LEVEL INPUTS from the stock deck, I could not get the amp to clip...but the amp prior (Soundstream Stealth) would easily clip at around 80% volume.

If there is a better alternative, and better sound at higher volumes I.E the Stinger amp, I think I might go with it instead.
