Default Helmet Audio

Not sure if this a touchy subject on this forum or not. I have a 2014 Ultra Limited and have done a couple of audio mods and just not happy with it. I've been thinking that I I don't need everyone else to hear my music and I wear a helmet 100% of the time so why not use helmet speakers. I have been wearing a 3/4 open face and also a half helmet.

Is there a particular helmet/speaker setup that is better than others?
If I use blue tooth I have to install a WHIM to connect to the radio?
Are people happy to just connect to phone and not use bike audio?

Thanks for any input

My understanding is that if you want to fully integrate with the Boom system and still have stereo sound and use of the handlebar controls you need the WHIM and the HD branded Sena set up. One of my club brothers just installed a set of the high definition Sena speakers in a helmet and he says it sounds pretty good.

I very rarely use headsets on my Ultra (mainly Jan and Feb) but when I do they sound much better with a full face helmet. Second to that is my good Fulmer 3/4 helmet. The half helmet is just a waste in my opinion. Too much wind competing with the sound.

Since I don't use them much I just stick with the wired headsets (my 2010 doesn't have all that fancy wireless stuff) so keeping handlebar controls is no problem. Another advantage of going wired is you can easily modify the headsets by wiring in whatever speakers you like. I actually disassembled an old set of Turtle Beach headphones and soldered wires to the speakers with a standard 3.5mm cable. I used a 3.5mm to Harley DIN adapter to plug it into the tank socket. If I'm not using a microphone this works fine. Also as a cheat you could use some earbuds to test with as well. Here is the adapter I'm referring to:
