So I have been reading a lot of threads as I decide on what I want for my bike. Ive got a 2016 road glide special that I just added lowers to. My system is just going to be 2 speakers in the lowers and two in the fairing, i need the saddlebag space so that's not an option. I'm doing it on a tight budget, which is obviously limiting my choices. I've settled for the most part on a soundstream pn4.1000 amp, polk mm652's and hertz ecx 165's. I could save a little if I went with 4 of the polk mm652s, but i want to try and get the best sound at highway speeds as i can without breaking the bank. Are the hertz speakers going to be an improvement over the polks? are there other speakers out there in the same price range I should look at? thanks in advance
We all started somewhere. That said, my best advice after 6+ years in it, I would wait to upgrade to budget a few more bucks at it.
If it were me, I'd hold out for Mmats PA601cx speakers and a Stinger amp. Do the fairing first if that's what the budget allows and wait to do the lowers as you save for it.
Probably not what you wanted to hear, but !!
Many of us have wasted small stacks while constantly looking for better.
I agree, I used that same Soundstream amp and Infinity Kappas (same parent company as Polk) in my fairing and lids and after I upgraded to Mmats in the fairing there was a big improvement in overall volume and sound quality. That setup was on an Ultra Classic. Purchased a Road Glide this past summer and didn't do lids so I used the Mmats in the lowers and went with some DB Drive speakers in the fairing. That amp isn't bad but is a tight squeeze and it killed my FM which wasn't a big deal to me. Not sure about the fit in a Road Glide as switched to Sound Digital amps. I think if you save a few more dollars and go with the Mmats you will be happier with the end result.
Listen to what's being said. I would avoid the Polks and really avoid the Hertz. Neither one of them are made for motorcycles. Save up a little more and be satisfied with the result.
Keep an eye on the classified section for some used equipment.
I personally don't mind the Soundstream amp. I've used it and installed. Not a bad amp for the price.
thanks for the advice, I'm going to start piecing everything together as money allows and go with the stinger spx700 and mmats in the fairing and add the lowers down the road
