Default Newb install question

I am in the planning and buying stage of installing a new setup in my 16 road glide. I am not very knowledgeable with audio equipment and have been doing a ton of research, this forum has been fantastic help with old posts. Doing the install myself with help from a buddy. Planning on the following upgrades: mmats 6.5s in the fairing, mmats 6x9 in the lids and powered by an mmats 4110 amp. I am looking at the stinger 98 and up install kit for wiring but that’s where my questions start. Is the stinger kit complete as far as hooking into the factory harness? I’m trying not to hack the factory harness if possible. I’m going to buy the Harley adapter for remote power. My buddy says I will also need a four channel output converter and some short rca plugs. Is there anything I’m missing.

The next question has to do with flashing the radio. My buddy works at a shop that can flash the radio. Not sure what flash they use. Is the flash all I need or would I still need the biketronics line levelers. The flash and line levelers are extremely confusing for when which is needed.

Thanks in advance.

If you don't want to cut the harness look at the BT-355 line levelers. They will plug right in and give you the RCA's you need. I've been running them for about 3 years now, no issues.

Check out Garage Bagger Stereo, they have an LOC that plugs into your factory speaker plugs. Stinger makes 1.5'
RCA's to connect the LOC to amp. Flash it for RF, Soundz or HD 8speaker/2amp.

No BT355 required.

Where in NC are you?

As DSM said, you just need a
loc loc
to convert to RCA's. I'd also plan on some better speaker wire. OFC 16 gauge will work.

I’m in Chatham county, close to the Alamance county line. On the line output converter do I need a four channel specific one or does that matter?

Just one of the loc's I pasted the link to for fairing speakers.

That amp doesn't need LoCs as it takes high-level or low-level inputs. Is this the
Stinger install kit Stinger install kit
? It will do fine but it's got a lot of parts in there you probably don't need and it's a little pricey IMO for what you get. It comes with the remote power adaptor so you don't need to buy that either.

There would be no cutting into the harness. You'd run the amp power and ground, the remote power, new speaker wires, and take the 2 front channel inputs from the stock connectors at the speaker pods inside the fairing. Set the amp for 2CH input (you won't have fade though). If you have to have fade you will need to wire your rear speakers as inputs to the amp as well and set the amp to 4CH. As I don't think your bike came with rear speakers you will need to connect to the rear audio connector [162] which is a gray 6 pin molex that's unused and sits above the radio inside the fairing. I don't think the Stinger kit comes with the adaptor for that so think hard on if you really want or need fade.

Alternatively, you can use a T-harness. This sits between the radio and the stock harness using the 48 pin connector coming off the radio. It brings out both the front and rear speakers as male RCAs (so you won't have to cut off the females on your amp harness). Here is an example of what I'm talking about. You wouldn't need the Stinger kit but you still need an amp power kit so it will end up costing a bit more (but you'll get fade). The only other thing is that this harness will not work with amps that don't have balanced inputs and I can't recall if Mmats is on that short list. If you went this route a quick call to American Hardbag and they could tell you and make sure you're not missing anything else (amp rack, speaker adaptor rings, quick connects for the bags, grills, etc.)

DSM suggested a few flashes and I think the Rockfort Fosgate (RF) flash is the most popular.

Wrapped up my install last night to discover a major issue. No sound coming from the bike at all. My set up is factory head unit, mmats 4110 amp, mmats 6.5’s in fairing and mmats 6x9 in lids. I used the American hard bags t harness to go from the hu to the amp with the factory plug. It has rca that connect to the amp. Using factory wiring thru t harness for front speakers, boss audio lid kit for rear speakers using the supplied speaker wiring harness plugged into the amp. The radio has not been flashed yet. When cutting the switch on the pwr prt light turns red then switches to blue after a second. Does that mean the amp is going in protect mode? We have verified power at 12v to amp and disconnected everything individually with no change. Any help is greatly appreciated. I’m ready to get it flashed and back on the road.

Do you have the remote wired to the amp? Install fuse in your power wire for the amp?

The remote is wired to the accessory plug behind the voltmeter, 12v on it with key on and running. Fuse is installed. Could the issue have something to do with the radio not being flashed and having four channel output? No rear factory speakers on my bike. Also what color should the pwr prt light be. My buddy thinks I have a bad amp. Everything was purchased new from a dealer. I bought the last one they had and it doesn’t seem available any where else that I can find.
