frustrating as hell. iphone x wont play when connected to usb. "no playable media" is displayed. works fine through blue tooth. had no issue until a few months ago, prior to that everythign was fine. it will charge just not play anything. i have tried updating the software...both the phone and HD are current. tried new cord...even tried my duaghters phone (iphone 8) and get the same message no matter what. i have searched both on here as well as other forums but there doesnt seem to be a clear cut fix but it does seem to be a common issue. just hoping to revisit the topic and see if anyone has any new ideas???
Do you have songs stored on your phone in mp3 or .wav format? The head unit reads a phone just like a usb drive.
i dont know that i have any actual dowloaded songs...ive always played through a streaming app like sirius/amazon/etc...it always worked fine before, when i plugged in the phone it would show the artist info and such on bike and i could scroll through and control everything with the handlebar controls...now i just get that error.
I just went back and read your op. I've never had an iPhone so I can't speak to it personally. I do know that with Android, if I don't have stored music it won't play through the wired connection. I could have it plugged in to charge, but it played streamed music via bluetooth. Stored music played through the wired connection.
Was this possibly the same situation with your iPhone, plugged in but playing through bluetooth?

yes that was the situation....but your comment about how it reads made me think about another post i saw elsewhere....someone suggested downloading one song...which i did and now it works! no idea why it was fine before then suddenly stopped, but now that i downloaded a song i think it reads as though there is "playable media", but i can then still stream other media that isnt downloaded. so for now it seems to work...thanks to everyone for the suggestions. much appreciated.
