Default SD 800 amp problem

My radio developed an issue that I am not sure whether it is the radio or the amp. It will play at a low volume, barely loud enough to be heard going down the road, but as soon as I turn up the volume it cuts in and out fairly rapidly. The loud is loud but then it goes very soft every few seconds. It is a SD 800 4ohm that has been in the bike for a couple of years. The issue is consistent with the radio am, fm and my Ipod. I have checked for loose connections and found none, any thoughts?

Doesnt sound like an amp issue. Probably the headunit
What speakers and headunit?
Could be anything really. Check your battery

The speakers are Polk Audio and the head unit is stock 2012 Harley. Any way to rest the head unit or just try a new one? I have 70,000 miles on the bike and the radio has been on for most of them.

maybe you could try bypassing the amp and just hooking up the speakers to the head unit to see if it still happens.

I had a similar issue, not exactly. Connections tight but what had happened is the positive came in soldered from the board and with a poor connection it required upping the volume to make it work.

I replaced the amp and one day I’ll soldier it back on and have it as a spare.
