all done via the AAWireless app, simply press a couple of buttons before setting off, adapter reboots and the sound gets directed to where you wanted it

HDHU.14si
Google Pixel 6a
AAWireless adapter

believe you can get the AAWireless module via amazon.com in the states
Now that's something that seems above my head but interesting. How do you link a helmet headset with the AA adapter to allow control with the handlebar controls? It also makes me wonder if something like this could be made to work with a factory GTS head unit....

ok to help with any confusion...

The AAWireless (WiFi module) is plugged into the head unit (HDHU.14si) instead of your phone via USB (this triggers Android Auto/Car Play)
...so yes you could use the AAWireless module (or any other brand for that matter) to untether your GTS

the helmet headset (CARDO EDGE) doesn't control anything, its is simply an output/input device (headphones & mic) and pairs to the WiFi module and my phone

The head unit has a MAESTRO module that interfaces between the radio and the bike, THIS controls the handlebar controls/joysticks and bike related requirements.

One of the very few downsides of switching out the OEM head unit was the loss of split audio from dash to headset (ie: music on dash, turn-by-turn to helmet)
With this variant of WiFi module (AAWireless) they have two options in the phone app that resolves this issue and allows me to push ALL or part audio to the headset when required (before I set off)

best thing I did was junk the OEM 6.5GT way back when

OK I think I may be starting to understand some of the situation. I don't use cell phones much so I'm a little dumb with them. You mentioned an app on the phone that works with AA? Is it something I would have to download from the Google Play Store? Does this app allow some handlebar control features of the audio even though the bluetooth headset is playing that audio straight from the phone? If so it sounds like something I might want to tinker with some day. Let me know if I'm too off track.

yes you download the AAWireless app from the Google Play store
this DOES NOT have any control over the handlebar controls

ordinarly you would be controlling your on-dash audio using your joystick/handlebar controls left and right..
HOWEVER when you push ALL audio into the helmet (by turning on DISABLE MEDIA SINK and DISABLE TTS SINK) in the app, those handlebar controls will not function the same way. They have function but it changes I've discovered.

Typically once I've pushed my audio to the helmet, I use the volume wheel on the CARDO to turn the volume up and down. And I listen to the same source for the duration of my ride. Tend to only do this when I'm in locked down full face mode because of the weather
Track change, pause etc appears to move to the RIGHT side handlebar controls, which was confusing (I thought my Maestro module had failed, but it's something to do with the audio playing direct from the phone to the helmet triggered by the app).

I usually ride with my music on dash and turn by turn in ear

This is great info. I'm going to order the AAWireless module for my HDHU9813RG. I didn't think I would be able to use a Sena with map on screen and turn by turn in helmet. This is awesome!

I doubt it's the only wireless module on the market that can do it, but the key is the modules software ability to DISABLE MEDIA SINK and DISABLE TTS SINK... the later being the turn-by-turn.

if I leave DMS off I get my music on the dash, and with DISABLE TTS SINK on (text to speech), that puts the turn by turn in the helmet (the one feature the OEM head-unit was useful for!)

I read some Carplay wireless modules being able to do something similar a while back, simply by picking the source you want to stream to when using maps on iPony. but as I moved to the green side many moons ago, I'm all about Android these days

...YMMV

Are you able to push Google Assistant voice commands via your Cardo mic? I have the HDHU14si, AAWireless 1 with DMS and TTS disabled and a Cardo Packtalk Edge; I can get all the media routed where I want it and the Cardo will trigger assistant when I say "Hey Google", but it doesn't pick up anything I say beyond that.
