Cardo HDHU making calls, your experience?

As the rides are dark nights and cold winds now, I've started pushing all audio/turn-by-turn to my helmet, so I'm locked down in a full face position keeping warm...
One glitch I've never been able to figure out is making and receiving calls successfully to the helmet 100%
This has occurred ever since I began using Sony7000, HDHU.14 and now the si head-unit. Cabled, wireless, whatever!
Just lately I've experienced 100% receiving a call by saying "ANSWER",
but for the love of tec I cannot make an outgoing call (to that same number) by saying "Hey Cardo, Speed Dial"
or double tapping the Cardo phone button, or pressing the name via the head unit.
every time it initiates and then connects the call to the dash and I can hear them saying HELLO HELLO on the speakers (at speed and my head-unit mic is currently disconnected)
I hang up and wifey now knows to call back and I can continue the conversation by saying ANSWER and it patches through to the lid as expected.
Anyone else having this hit and miss experience with helmet calls?
don't wanna do a lot of talking just the important "on my way, get the dinner on" ...when I'm feeling brave

I even took it back to the store and they updated the software via their computer. They suggest maybe I was catching the buttons on the cardo on my shoulder as Im moving my head but not sure thats the problem

So for starters my setup is cardo packtalk (I've had the bold and the neo), iphone (a couple different versions over the years), the factory GT, a Soundstream HD14-KIT (the walmart one) and now a Rockford Fosgate head unit. I currently have wireless carplay via a $30 amazon adapter. I DO NOT pair the phone to the headunit via bluetooth, ONLY carplay... with the GT I just used the USB port to plug into the phone and treated it like an ipod as far as the radio was concerned. ALL calls go through my cardo and I've NEVER had any issues other than for short time (not sure if it was an update to the phone or just some random thing) when I activated siri it would try to use the mic on the soundstream radio which was mounted on the fairing... and absolutely worthless unless you opened your face shield, leaned over and screamed into it. With an iphone you can click the little bluetooth icon and change the source/output for the call to your cardo but of course that's an issue if you have it in a cubby or a pocket or something.
