Battery Options
Hoping to not be another typical “best battery” thread but what would be the best battery (haha) when running an ultra limited and two 1,000 watt amps?
I recently had to replace my factory battery on the ‘14 limited and tried a Yusa battery I saw suggested in another thread. I’ve had it about 2 weeks now and noticed it just doesnt seem up to the task.
I just finalized my DSP tuning and found that I can only play music for about a minute on a “fully” charged battery before I can hear the stereo start to lower in volume due to the voltage dropping. Same thing happens at a long idle and I need to increase rpm’s to charge the battery more and it turns back up.
I tested the battery some and at a full charge from the tender and the bike off, the battery sits at 12.9-13.0 volts. With the bike running above 1,000 rpm the volts show up to 13.5 or so with no music drawing power but once the bike is off the battery sits back in the 12.9 range again like that’s its max voltage. I swear my factory battery would sit at 13.5 or so off the charger and would be in the 14 range while running, it just wouldn’t hold a charge anymore
Is it the battery or am I asking too much now from a standard AGM style battery and need one of those $700 lithium type batteries now with a 2k watt system?

What is your charging system rated at? Regardless the type battery and/or quantity they still need to recover and at idle they will never recover. Plug your actual voltages in at the specific RPM's for a more accurate number.
idle
13v @ 2000w (max) requires a 155a charging system.
13v @ 1000w (50%) requires a 77a charging system.
2k rpm
13.5v @ 2000w (max) requires a 148a charging system.
13.5v @ 1000w (50%) requires a 74a charging system.
3k rpm
14v @ 2000w (max) requires a 143a charging system.
14v @ 1000w (50%) requires a 71a charging system.

Hey Jake, I would recommend upgrading your battery for sure. It takes power to make power!
You're testing isn't that same as when you are ridding around town and cranking the music (short answer).
You can't go wrong with going with a lithium, it doesn't hurt, except they are spendy.
For your setup and climate area you live in, I would go with this: https://www.vaultpower12v.com/produc...sodium-battery

The battery is only part of the equation, I think a 1k watt amp (DC powered) draws around 75 amps or so if you are pushing it. Your wiring AWG and alternator would be as big of a factor as the battery itself.

His amp is rated at 60a draw and running 4G OFC wiring and there is not alternator in a motorcycle.

I’m assuming there’s more to it than just the specs in paper? Also do you know what the CCA rating is? I didn’t see that info listed. I’m not familiar with sodium batteries.
