Looking for a solution. I have a '97 FLHTPI with a Sony reciever...I would like to be able to plug my helmet speakers into the reciever to hear the radio instead of the onboard fairing speakers. I have an aux input jack in the Sony that will play my MP3, but when I try a headphone I get nothing. Is there a radio out there that will allow me to use a headphone/helmet speakers?

The Sony receiver does have an "input" on the front of it but as you found out that is for plugging in an external device such as MP3 player and transferring that sound into your audio system. In order to do what you want to do you would have to have a radio that has an "output" on it and/or then this is going to require the addition of something along the lines of the J&M helmet/headset products.

Used to be Camaro's...
Having trouble locating a radio that has this output. Would my helmet not work as well with the EdSet's speakers installed? They work fine with the MP3 player.
have you contacted EdSets to see if they have an adapter to connect your headsets to this device? You're going to be hard-pressed to find a radio with a "headphone" style plug on it for your headsets.

The helmet speakers use the standard 3.5mm jack, same as the aux input in nearly all radios. Fail to see what any "adapter" would do if there is no place to plug it in the radio. Just seems there has got to be someone making automotive/marine radios with a headphone out jack...I may be wrong tho.
what I meant was an adapter for the radio to allow the plugin of the headsets. They may have something that plugs into the RCA outputs of the radio and provides for a 3.5mm plug in for your headset.

no.. that's just a y adapter. what you'll need is something that plugs into the RCA outputs on the back of the radio, has some type of amplification, and then also provides for a 3.5mm jack.
