Default Narrowed to speakers

Okay you guys are rocking on this site as I have been a member since 07 and love reading various posts. I am looking at the Rokker series speakers or the Focals PC 165 speakers (for my fronts and lowers) and wanted to know what you thought. I have listened to a ton of speakers (Polk, Focal, J&M, Boston, etc.) and I have it narrowed to the Rokker or Focal. Focal sounds awesome but there is a big difference listening stationary versus 75 mph. The J&M are good and I have seen good reviews but again wanted some advice. Yes this is my second post but I want to get this buttoned up so during winter I can do all the mods. ( Yes I will take lots of pics). Really unless someone has developed a way to build a bubble around a bike while you are riding, listening to music on a bike is toally different than any other environment except maybe a boat at full throttle.................Thoughts.

Couldn't agree more. With that said the only Focals I've heard are the PS165s and they do sound incredible sitting still. I just can't bring myself to spend that kind of $$ on speakers. All said and done, I've tried various manufacturer's speakers both designed for motorcycles and not, and my opinion is simply this; High $ speakers will make a world of difference in sound quality sitting still, there is NO doubt. However cruising down the road at 75 or 80 you've got wind, engine noise, exhaust, passing vehicles, and then road noise itself. You're not going to hear much difference. I personally like the polks but you will not get the full benefit of any speaker you choose unless you put a good quality amp on them.

Hey Meist21;
It really seems you've done your homework and learned alot reserch and I comend you for it. We run into a lot of people that just buy and then not happy with their purchase. As we carry both J&M and Focal I believe we can be the best non biased opinion on which to by, and what you will get out of you purchased package.
We will work on the idea that we are going to do two sets of speakers on a four channel amp.
The J&M and Dragonfly kits both use an Arc 4 channel so the only difference there is the price. They both hook up the same way, and have the same power output.
As far as the speakers you will find the J&M's put out a louder sound by a DB or two, where the Focal's are cleaner. Both will be able to be heard at 75-80 miles per hour provided yoiu are playing a clean recording. (Clean music is one of the most important items in loud Motorcycle Audio).
as far as lower fairings, you can put the Focal's directly into the existing glove box or purchase the speaker specific pods for $100.00 plus 349.00 for the PC 165 where as the J&M pods are also 449.00 for the kit.
Lastly Dragonfly is having a Pre Black Friday sale that started on Monday and ends today for 25% of and free shipping.

I'm looking at adding new fairing speakers and an amp to my Street Glide this winter. I've been all over the forums reading reviews. Everyone has their opinions just like shocks, oil and tires. Anyone know where I can go and actually hear some of these speakers in person? My dealer doesn't have displays other than Harley and the box stores just carry regular Sony / Alpine... I've watched some YouTube videos but that isn't very reliable either. Any help?

I understand about wnating to hear before you buy. I don't believe I have anyone that I know of that can demo a system in your area. However we do have some You Tube vids for you to check out. Check out the one in particular that we walk away from the bike at over 200 ft and listen for the sound quality.

All these video's where filmed with a Motorola Razor CELL PHONE!!!!!!

Thanks man. The first video did sound amazing. However; your song selection is suspect and I now question your sexuality. Nah, just kidding bro. Thanks again. Happy Thanksgiving.

Still doing research as the bike is in storage and have all winter to make a decision. Are the Focals and other comparable speakers car audio speakers? I've been looking at marine speakers and others that are waterproof. There are so many options that it's tough to decide.

Just got my dragonfly fairing a couple of weeks ago. Got the arc audio amp with the focal polyglass 6 x 9 speakers. The sound is awesome and at 65 mph it was actually hurting my ears. They do lose some of the low end at that speed but I think it is probably impossible for any speaker to keep it's full sound at that speed in the open air. The Aquatic stereo is also a great unit. I pod plugs inside the faceplate and the i pod is controlled through the radio buttons.Great set up. Highly recomend to anyone looking for an aftermarket fairing. They do a great job with the paint and pinstripe. Looks factory.

you're not going to find a "marine grade" speaker that will perform like a normal speaker unless you spend a lot of $$.

The J&Ms, Focals, Polks, Boom Audio, Hogtunes, Hawgwired, etc. are all water resistant speakers and will serve you well on your bike. The Polks, Boom, and J&Ms I had on my 09 Ultra went thru many a rain storms and many a washes without a problem. Go for quality, don't worry about finding something that's water proof as it doesn't exist in a form factor for a motorcycle. Stay away from paper cone speakers.
