I'm looking for an MP3 player that will play into the HK head unit much louder then the SanDisk I have now. I'm using an amp under the batwing and bigger speakers, the HK radio blast me out at half volume but a better MP3 player is needed to be heard as good as the radio ! Doing a search I found a Cowon MP3 player That is 30 MW per Chanel ... it's the iaudio9 , a little larger then I would like ! Can someone tell me will the Cowon drive the HK so it will play as loud as the FM radio ? Can someone recommend a player you're having good luck with
if you're not getting the same volume out of your Sandisk MP3 player as the HK unit puts out with say a CD then you have to look at a few things here because I don't believe buying another product is going to solve your issue. You'll simply move the volume control from the HK unit to whatever device you buy.
1.) The way your MP3s are encoded is important. The sampling rate and bitrate is very crucial to the way the MP3s are going to sound coming out of anything amplified.
2.) I use a program called Audacity (not free but I have a large investment in MP3s so it's worth the purchase) that I use to normalize MP3s so they 1.) all play the same volume and 2.) if the MP3 itself has soft spots in it, then I can normalize that single MP3 as well.
3.) you might have something wrong with the AUX input on your HK unit.
Call Iron Cross Audio and talk to Tony. He'll tell you why it's better to have them add an AUX input to the rear of your HK radio than to use the AUX input on the front. It does make a significant difference where that AUX is tied into the audio circuit.
I recently picked up a Sansa clip + MP3 player, 4 gig with a 16 gig micro sd card. I've synced 30 cds onto it at 256kbps, the volume through my aux jack is the same as when I play cds. Be sure to switch the volume to high in the volume settings on the Sansa, and move the MP3 volume up to a click or 2 from full.

Your MP3 just doesn't put out much of a signal which is why the db level difference. Try a line driver between the MP3 and your HU. Although most line drivers are intended to increase SN ratio they will also boost the output voltage/signal from the measely half volt or so. Should be able to find them from 25 to 75 bucks.
Thanks to everyone that replied yes the Santa is only 5 mw pure channel so I have this one that will be here middle on next week , it's 30mw pure channel
