Default Upgrading SG

I would do the MM651 speakers. While you're in there wiring up the amp, you should go ahead and run the wires for the rears as well this way you don't have to pull it apart again. Just tie wrap them under the seat out of the way. When you set your gains for the front, set the rear gains to be the same. Just make sure your rear wires are isolated so they don't short against ground and damage your amp. Lots of guys are using the deutsch connectors for the detachable tour paks.

Check out Harleypingman's
writeup on wiring for the rear speakers on the stock headunit.

Sorry, Realized that I had hijaced another man's thread so I started a new one.

Great. Thanks. I read somewhere that we should get the MM651s and not the MM651UM. Is this accurate?

So for the first phase I will need the amp, speakers, adapter rings, power wire, ground wire, and fuse block. Am I missing anything?

no problem.. it happens all the time and we've all gotten accustomed to it. Just easier for the OP (you) if you ever want to refer back to your questions to find them in your thread.

Yes on the MM651. The UM are 4 ohms and the grills do not detach from the speaker so that would pose a problem on fairing installs.

Yes also to your 2nd question, you got it all covered there. remember to put that fuse holder and a 30A fuse at the battery to protect your electrical system.

Any recommendation on the speaker adapter? I see some for 39 some for 49 and some really cheap ones. Would rather pay more and get one that fits correctly.

Ok Ultra,
All my parts have arrived and I am planning to attempt this install this weekend.

I'm a bit confused on how to secure the amp but I think it may be more clear once I get in there.

As a reminder, I have the following parts.

SS PN4.520d
Polk MM651 Fairing Speakers
Cycle Sounds Adapter Rings
Power / Ground/ Fuse Block and Fuse.

I also purchased the SNI-35 after reading your recommendation to another SG owner. Hoping that this will prevent me from having to buy the rear output harness and have the HU flashed at dealer...... I'm not worried about fader control at this point.

Can you please tell me how to properly install this little item. I understand that the SG HU only provides for front speaker output and I want to wire this amp for 4 speakers if this is possible. (the second pair to be added later). I read where you suggested something like RCA Y adapters? Can you explain this for me please?

Thanks,

smart move on the SNI-35. This saves a lot of headaches especially if you're not interested in the fader piece. Later on if you get the fader flashed, you simply remove it and wire up the high level inputs off the radio to the amp and you're done.

Your stock wiring in your fairing is (sitting on bike)
brown/white is Right + to SNI-35 gray wire
white/green is Right - to SNI-35 gray/black wire
grey/red is left + to SNI-35 white wire
green/black is left - to SNI-35 white/black wire

get 2 RCA Y adapters and plug into each RCA output of the SNI-35 device
take your 2 RCA cables and plug into each Y adapter (pay attention white to white, red to red) and then plug the other ends to your front and rear inputs on the amp front gets a white and red and rear gets a white and red.

Now you have 4 channel input.

Easy enough. So my SNI has a couple of extra brown ground wires. Are these needed?. Also, there are some pots adjustment options. Will I need to adjust these for use with the stock HU?

they're only needed if you wind up with a ground loop but you won't with this setup. The pots are gain controls that adjust the output voltage of the RCAs on the SNI. I wouldn't fool with them because they usually come set where they need to be. If the instructions give a reference to the voltage then you want to set them to 4v output.
