I originally posted in the electrical section thinking that the volume hand control had gone out again but thanks to UltraNutZ, found the problem to be the connection between the radio harness and the biketronics retro radio module. Even though it looked to be connected correctly I disconnected and blew both ends out and reconnected. bingo my switches work again. I even put a zip tie to hold them both together tightly.
If I ever get the chance to meet UltraNutZ, I'm buying the brew!
I used your "sandwich" idea on the ss amp install and it worked great. I did notice though that one of the screws was scraping against the clutch cable so I put a rubber cap over the screw.
