I will run a ground to the battery as my next step. Hopefully I can take care of that today. Thank you

I have run a temporary ground from the amp to the battery. Both speakers are working and sound good. It does still pop when the head unit is turned off and on, not when bike is turned on or off. This "popping" couldn't be the result of a bad ground if I am connected directly to the battery, correct? Thanks,

(edit) my temp ground is a 16 g wire I had laying around. Would that make any difference? Should it be more like 8-10g? I have 8 g running to the battery for power...

The ground lead direct to the battery didn't seem to make my problem disappear. I tested the original grounding point with a meter and it seemed a good ground (fairing mount bolt). I cleaned the paint off around the bolt, reinstalled the ground and it seem to be working. Went out for a ride and it was good for almost an hour, then it started to go out again. I did notice that when it would go out, it was when there was little to no sound from the source. If I cranked the volume to max, the speaker would crackle and come back. I would turn volume down a little and it sounded great for a little and then the speaker would go out again... Now I'm pretty stumped. The only thing I have not tried would be a different amp to see if that is the issue...

If you haven't done so already, put a proper ground wire on the amp-- probably 10 ga. Using 16 ga. was ill advised--it's like replacing a fire hose with a garden hose.

Hope you sort out your issue.

Yes, put the 8 ga ground back on amp. The 16 was just to see if it made an difference....

Yes that ground wire needs to be replaced with a 10ga ground wire minimum. I would do that before going off chasing your tail on the pop issue.

and this is still the arc amp correct?

I hate to say it since Iron Cross is a great company but the turn on turn off "Pop" is coming from the pre-outs they installed. I had mine done by them as well as my bro and we are both experiencing the same pop. Our pop is a lot louder when turning off the radio from the deck. There is no pop when we turn off the bike and leave the stereo on.
I have yet to install a high level speaker line out converter (too lazy to yank the batwing off again). I'm not going to use the pre-outs they installed. Instead I am going to connect the speaker outs to the converter to solve this problem!

also try
this this
before switching everything to line level converters. I think you'll find you've got a ground loop somewhere in your systems.

So far what I have found while searching the net about this issue is that the amp should not be mounted to a metal grounded surface. When I had the amp in my 07, it was mounted to the inner fairing with 3M tape. When I put it in the 12, I made a set of mounts similar to the J&M ones, metal and mount to the radio and fairing mount. I was also using the fairing mount as a ground point. I have redone the way the amp mounts to the brackets using bushings and rubber washers to isolate the amp from ground. SO FAR, it seems to have fixed the left speaker going out. The pop is still there but I seldom turn the radio off, I turn the bike off 99.9% of the time. I am going to see how this works out now. Thank you all for the advice and information.
