Default 2014 inner fairing speaker boxes revealed (PICS)

Here it is, I took it apart to inspect everything and look at aftermarket options.

http://imgur.com/a/cFObf#0

Every picture has detailed descriptions with screw sizes, etc.

As far as aftermarket, I have a plan to add an amp and 6.5" speakers without splicing any wires.

I just need someone to recommend the right 6.5" speaker: See this image for details:http://imgur.com/a/cFObf#7

How much time did it take you to remove the outer fairing? I am thinking of having the XM module added and wonder how much time I should expect to pay for. My Harley dealer had no idea?

Outer fairing is easier than the old one. I can get it removed in 10-15 minutes. The XM module should only take another 15 minutes as all the harnesses and install mount seems to be already there. Programming I have no idea but I think its also a 15 minute job to click through some menus on the Digital Technician II.

So I would guess an hour total.

I recommend just take one side off at first and 'dry fit' a speaker in there and see if you can screw it all back.

Something else I didn't mention is there is a little nub on the box you may have to shave off with a utility knife to get the speaker flat.

Thanks for the pics. Certainly a lot going on. Not sure they made a better mouse trap but certainly a more involved one. Could you leave all this stuff out if you wanted? Is it important structurally to the fairing?

The service manual says not to run the bike without the boxes installed. On the older model they had a metal brace that went out to the speaker, thats now gone so the box is doing that job and more.

Ah ha! The support bracket is built in. Good catch. So as long as the support bracket part remains intact and structurally strong maybe the rest could be ditched if someone was so inclined? Not saying I've though of a reason this would be advantageous. Just trying to look at all possibilities.
