Default Speaker amp combo?

To start off I have a 12 SG with (currently) an all stock stereo and I plan on keeping my stock head unit and do not plan to add any other speakers to my system. I have read tons of threads on these componets and have narrowed it down to two sets of speakers and two amps. I am torn between the BT 7P1's and the Polk MM651's. After I buy the Polks and some rings the price should be about the same. First off do I have to get the MM651UM (marine) or will the the standard MM651 hold up ok. Secondly, can anyone that has had expirence with both tell which is a better performing speaker? Now for the amp. I was sold on the RF PBR300x2 untill I read UltraNutz write up on the SS PN2.350D. With the recomendation from him im pretty much sold on the SS unless there is a negative to using this amp over the RF that I have not read about. Im leaning towards the Polk's with SS amp combo. I like the idea pushing 175w with the 2ohm Polks.

the SS amps as well as most other class D amps are known for causing FM interference so if FM is important to you I'd steer cleer of Class D amps. The RF PBR300x2 is boosted rail technology so it won't interfere with FM.

As much as I love the Polk lineups, the BT7P1 - 7.1" are a better bass producing speaker. Each has it's own characteristics and both sound great but I'd go the BT route. The combo of 7.1" and PBR300x2 is a great sounding combo!

If you go the route of the Polks, then you do NOT want the UM series as the grills do not come off of them. Pretty much all full range speakers now-a-days are water proof to some extent so I wouldn't worry about "marine-grade"

I dont want to lose my FM reception so I guess its back to the PBR300x2. How do the two speakers compare as far as clarity, I want good clean sound. Bass would be good but I know its going to disappear at highway speed.

Also, just ran across these on Amazon, anyone used them and seen an improvment in the low end?

The MM's are very bright/clear. Like UltraNutz stated, the BTs produce more bass. I also believe the RF matches with the BTs better because of ohms. I'm in Lawton,OK and running the MMs in the fairing and BT 479 6 x 9s in the rear with a SS520. So if you need any help or want to hear what the speakers sound like, just let me know. My buddy is running 2 RF amps and they seem to run hot some times. Oh and those boom mats are a waste of money.

Ordered the RF amp tonight, Will order a set of speakers tonight, most likely will be the BT7P1's only thing holding me up is the brand. I have always tinkered around with car and home audio and Polk has a reputation for making good speakers. Shelling out $250 for a brand that I have never heard of is a tough call. As long as the BT's are as crisp as the Polk's its a done deal the bass is just a plus.

This is the company that makes Biketronics speakers. Very good reputation.

Just my experience. I installed a RF PBR300x2 and Polk 651's at the end of July. Sounded pretty good but not as good as i thought it would. After 2 months the woofers quit on the Polks. Polk is replacing them under warranty but in the mean time i put the factory speakers back in, wrapped them with polyfil, and hooked them up to the RF amp. I must say, im pretty impressed. To my ears they actually sound better than the Polks. Im sure they cant match the BT's that im hoping to eventually get, but for now they will do. I dont think im gonna even bother putting the Polk's back in.

Just my .02
