Default HD Plus Ipod Player

Anyone else having problems with these? I put one in my RG some time ago. It worked fine playing my Iphone for the longest time. Then all of a sudden it was as if there was no connection to my Iphone. I made sure that I had a good connection, but still when the phone was plugged in nothing would play and all I would see on the radio screen was HD Plus and the version number. I called up Iron Cross audio and ordered a new cable.

I installed the cable and the Iphone/Ipod played fine for awhile but then would freeze up where all I saw on the radio screen was the title of the song but nothing would be playing. I even tried playing a regular Ipod through it in case there was something about my Iphone 5, but I had the same results. So I figure it has to be the player. Since its been over 18 months I think I'm SOL with any warranty. I don't want to replace the unit with another of the same make so I guess I'll have to break down and just buy an OEM unit, probably should have done that in the first place.

I have really enjoyed my HD Plus IPod Adapter but sometimes it changes from random play to sequential play with random and locked still showing on the display. I am not sure if it is an iPod problem or the adapter. I kind of think it is the iPod. I'm sending my HU to them in a week or so to get the RCA jacks out of the pre-amps. Been too busy to pull the fairing off again although I am getting real good at it.

On the subject of removing the fairing, I always remove my passing lamp light bar before I take the outer fairing off. Is that necessary?

No. Just put some old socks on the passing lamps to protect the paint and your all good. I've also seen some people use the purple Crown Royal bags as well. I just use some microfiber towels.

Thanks, should be lots easier next time, I have wind deflectors too.

To be clear about my IC IPod adapter reply, I've always thought it one of my best purchases. The cable reaches to the tour pak, really keeps the IPod out of the way, I put it inside a Koozy and in the pouch. Way better than using aux input.

Can't agree with you there. I never did get a response from them.

But in any case, I did check the power and the ground, both are good. Power comes from a swithed wire and ground is from a factory ground wire. Disconnected the ground as a test and the Ipod player cut off immediately. Checked the output cable, the Ipod played, slapped and knocked it around to simulate bike movement and it kept playing so I thought the problem was solved. It worked fine on a 10 mile test ride, then the next time I tried it, it worked for a short while then went blank with just the HD Plus Screen and the version number on it. Guess I'll just buy the Harley unit and be done with it.

Bit confused.
When we asked where power and ground were connected to, this was what we were concerned with. If you had connected everything as per instructions, your power to the module would be constant, not switched. The module cannot be connected to switched power. Once communication is established with the radio, constant power is needed to prevent loss of that communication. Constant applying / removing power from the module can result in a defective module (as probably happened here). We would like to help you directly, but you need to call / email us.
