My boyfriend has a 2013 Electra Glide Ultra Limited. I want to get him a mp3 player that can be heard through the speakers on his bike. I'm not familiar with techy stuff and I'm not that familiar with his bike. So, I need to know what iPod I need to buy that can be hooked to the existing stereo and heard through the existing speakers and if I need to buy any additional parts to make that happen. I'm on a budget, so if you have any cost effective ways of making this happen that would be super. Thanks for any help!!
They have an aux port on the bike it is like the headphone ports on the mp3 or ipods. Any should work if all he wants to do is hear it thru the speakers. If he wants to use the bar controls to control it he will have to install the harley ipod thing in his fairing or the hdplus I used both have had much better luck with harleys version.

I am using the hdpdplusfrom Iron Cross Audio that is a lot cheaper than the HD version and it works just fine if looking to go that route. however, not sure if they have updated these to work with the newer version of the iPod's that use the lightning connectors or not, so would check on that if you are getting a newer iPod version.
just use the AUX port on the front of the radio as suggested above. You only other expense aside from the iPOD is a 3.5mm cable to plug into the headphone output of the iPOD and plug into the aux port. $6 at Radio Shack or Walmart.
OK I understand you said you are on a budget and I can respect that, but I have to point some rethinks out. Is you boyfriend a tech head or gadget lover? If so in my opinion while he would love the iPod addition I am sure he would be head over heels (pun intended) if you were to get him an iPod and the HD iPod interface. In total about 600 installed. Yes I know this is pricey but you will have full full functionality via the hand controls and totally seamless.
The iron cross option while OK you would nerd to find someone to install it and more of a hassle. Unless you know someone and then that is a good option.
But really if he is not into gadgets then the wire into the aux port and a low cost iPod or mp3 player will be just fine and works just as fine.
Good luck with your present and in my opinion your a great girlfriend for even asking and researching I am jealous.
